Applying to SWIC Fall 2011?

Published

Hello all~

I'm working very hard to see if I can enter SWIC nursing program for Fall 2011. I would like to make of this thread a place where we can give each other support. Right now I'm taking a couple of classes ;Chemistry & Psychology until October and then I start Microbiology, Developmental Psychology, and Sociology until December plus the CNA course in November. I'm going bananas with all the credits and amount of work I'm dealing with. I'm committed to this but I have to confess I'm so scared I will not reach my goal and not have enough points in the end after all the effort. Thank God I can express myself here because I think no one around me understands what I'm going through to make it happen.

Everyone is so quiet. Any new thoughts from anyone circling around in those heads out there??? Any idea when the orientations will be? I am trying to plan a vacation in May, but I am concoerned about the orientation. (if I even get accepted that is!)

I'm just thinking about how financial aid works...Will I have to go full time? Since I've completed all my pre-reqs and other courses for graduation. I'd rather just concentrate on the nursing courses and not take any "fluffer" courses just to be eligible for fin aid. The only one I definitely know I want to take is Microbiology. I'm also wondering about when we will get the letters. Will it be this week, or next week?? I know one person posted they will be going out the 3rd wk of Apr, but since Apr 1 was on a Fri, what's going to be considered the 3rd wk? I just know I am very anxious to get my letter....I'm wondering about orientation, too.

Oh, BTW, my name is Margaret... ;)

Hi Margaret! Nice to meet you!! I was checking the old thread to compare when they received theirs. The first person that posted as having received it, was on April 15, 2010 which was the third Thursday of the week. This year that same day will be on a Friday. So I guess we will be receiving them probably before Saturday (April 16) this week. I am just guessing...that tranquilizes me.

Welcome Margaret, I don't believe you have posted before right, on this thread? I may be wrong, I am to lazy and it is too late on a Saturday night for me to check. That certainly would be a delimma with the financial aid. If you already have all the pre regs out of the way, you wouldn't need to be full time, but that would hurt you financially in a lot of ways. I would look at any local school, UMSL, SLU etc, and see what may transfer over should you ever decide to go for a Bach, but then, most of those are probably 300s or higher, so it may not apply. I'll think about it and if you come up with anything please let me know! Do you feel feel confident on being accepted? Are you willing to share how many points you have?

Take care Margaret and everyone else!!

Tracy

It's nice to meet you too, Irma!

Thank you Tracy! I have posted, just to say hi and wish everyone luck...I have 18 points from pre-reqs and test scores, but I'm not actually sure how many GenEd coursework points I will have. I listened to the counseling office as opposed to reading the 10 yr limit disclaimer on the Nursing Application and I put a couple of courses down that were older than 10 years (English and College Alg), so I'm not sure how many extra points I will get from those. My other GenEd courses were almost at the 10 yr mark (I took them in the spring of 2001), so I'm not sure what will be accepted and what won't. I was going to call to find out about what courses were accepted and which ones weren't, but I'm not going to worry about it. Hopefully I'll be able to get in based on my PreReq/Test score points alone. Well the waiting is almost over...:yeah:

Just an FYI, I talked to Julie in enrollment svcs and she said ltrs will go out in the 3rd full week of April....so I guess that means another week of anticipation. And all my gen ed courses were accepted, so I have 21 pts.

The longer it takes the more I start to panic about not getting in with 19 points. Heck, this was "Plan B" to start with. I have NO IDEA what I will do if this falls through!!! Seriously, do you think it's possible to go from letting some 15 1/2 point people in last year to needing 20 points to get in this year???? I'M FREAKING OUT OVER HERE!!!

Tracy, I think you'll be fine. I am freaking out, too. Not that I think I'll have a problem getting in, but with all the other stuff that comes along with being in nursing school and what happens after. Reading all these posts by other nursing students and nurses makes me get real jittery. I just have to have faith that everything will fall into place...I know SWIC will prepare me for life as a RN, but will it prepare me for my family life when I become an RN?

Not only after, but I am worried how I will get through school at all. We get 3 kids every other week from a previous marriage with the youngest one still only 8, plus I am going to have to work anywhere between 30-40 hours a week too just to make sure the bills are payed. It is going to be one very challenging time not only for me, but for our entire household!!

Hi Margaret, Tracy, Irma, etc...

Just checking in after not being on in awhile. We should be getting close to knowing something soon, and I'm excited to meet everyone in person.

Trace, I have two stepsons as well who live with us and are 9 and 14. Things can get very hectic especially with scheduling, so I can relate! I'm sure we'll all figure it out in the end, and be very happy with our decision to pursue this course...(knock on wood!)

Where is everyone located? I'm in Collinsville.

Talk to you soon.

Kelly

I live in Belleville.
