Apply twice to the same position?

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I applied for a peds postion in a small community hospital last week. The recruiter called me the next day and said she was forwarding my info to the nurse manager. So i assumed qualified for the position. I never got a call back for an interview. Yesterday i got an email stating that I "lacked the experience the position required." I thought this was funny because I have over 5 years experience in pediatrics at a major children's hospital. But i still lack experience for a small peds unit ??? Also, in the posting it said "pediatric experience preferred" I thought i was at least i was a candidate for an interview.

A few days after i applied the position was taken down and it re-posted yesterday. Should i reapply? Should i email the recruiter to see what experience they were looking for? Or should i let it go?

Good luck. I hope all goes well and you get the position you want!

thanks....i hope all goes well this is the perfect job for me and my situation right now.

That's nuts?!? Sent by mistake ! Could you imagine if you took a different position because of the mess up ? Well- I'm glad you things worked out!!! I wish you the very best with the interview! I had my second interview ( for the same position)- last one was with the nurse manager.. This time I met with the staff nurses and HR and HR asked me to sign to check references:) when I arrived there were 3 of us waiting another RN who was there for her first interview and a girl for a tech position having her first interview ( I was the only one there fir a 2 nd interview) we all went to hr first then we all went with the DON to the Department.. I've never had this happen before! We all went into a room and the 3 of us actually all got along very well! They had the nurse educator come in, a manager and two staff nurses. I stayed with the staff nurses who said that it was an informal thing and they want to see if I'm a good fit. Toured the dept. talked with the educator who was awesome:) and then myself and the other two candidates were told we were done. ANY THOUGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does this mean? I think it went well!

I think you got it! It sounds promising....i feel like they wouldn't have brought out all those staff members out if they weren't going to hire you. Back in 2006 when i was about to graduate nursing school i went to a mass interview day for senior nursing students at a small peds hospital. I was one of the last to be interviewed. i got a call for a second interview and they took me to one of units and it was more like a tour, a chance to meet staff, and to see if i made a nice fit to the unit. A couple of days later i got an email from the nurse recruiter saying i got the job. Your 2nd interview reminded me of my experience. Did they say what the next step is in the process?

Ugh, the job market is so tough right now. I don't know what these hospital want anymore. No new grads, yet lacking experience with 5 years of it??? Maybe the magic number is 2 years, lol. This keeps happening to me also. Experience in a unit, good resume (at least I think so), except getting automatic rejection letters. No one is even looking at it my resume or cover letter. I'm missing some "key" word I guess. I say keep applying, what the heck. Maybe the nurse manager got your resume confused with someone elses :)

you were right!!! they had me mixed up with someone that had no experience. Im getting a chance to interview.

Awesome!!! I'm very happy for you :)

PedsRN- I was told the don would call in about a week and at the end none of us needed to go back to hr. I did sign a release to check references. I know the job posting is pulled as of yesterday for the shift that I applied to they still have 3 other shifts open and I don't know what the other RN applied for:( I thought it was awkward that we were together and went to the dept together ? I know her and the NM seemed to hit it off but this was her first interview. I was told that during this second interview I would meet with hr and don ? But - I met only with hr and staff nurses ; I met with NM only for first interview... I'm stressed now because I would love to have this job:)

You are right about them not wasting the staffs time. Maybe that's why we all went together

Any updates with the job?

I just had my interview. It went really well the NM said she was really impressed with me. I'm hopeful....but i have had great interviews before and still didnt get the job. So im just waiting to hear back.

Yes and no- I got a job but another position that I was waiting to hear about . The ED position they did not give and said it was because I didn't have enough experience . I asked politely, " well- the nm who interviewed me the 1 st time knew that???" she said ," yes but don wanted to interview you." I said," ok but I don't know if you realize this but I never interviewed with him only the other candidate did! I talked with the nurses?" her reply- " OH"

Any how it's fine because the day before I got an offer for a great opportunity at a subacute care closer to my home :) I start June 4 they told me straight up about the place the good the bad and the ugly but that I could get my skills and mice on. There is a brand new hospital that just opened right across the street! So I can apply there after 6-12 mths. Also they are very flexible with things:) I hope you hear back!!! Let me know ! Best of luck

Sorry for the errors in my post :( used my iPhone

That's awesome.....so happy for you:) Good Luck with the new job.....There's a reason for everything.

I would call and speak to her to find out what the deal is. It could be just an oversight. You will never know that unless you speak to her or reapply. Good luck.

Missed the second page of responses! Congrats on the good news so far! Hope you get the job!
