Apply twice to the same position?

I applied for a peds postion in a small community hospital last week. The recruiter called me the next day and said she was forwarding my info to the nurse manager. So i assumed qualified for the position. I never got a call back for an interview. Yesterday i got an email stating that I "lacked the experience the position required." I thought this was funny because I have over 5 years experience in pediatrics at a major children's hospital. But i still lack experience for a small peds unit ??? Also, in the posting it said "pediatric experience preferred" I thought i was at least i was a candidate for an interview.

A few days after i applied the position was taken down and it re-posted yesterday. Should i reapply? Should i email the recruiter to see what experience they were looking for? Or should i let it go?

Ugh, the job market is so tough right now. I don't know what these hospital want anymore. No new grads, yet lacking experience with 5 years of it??? Maybe the magic number is 2 years, lol. This keeps happening to me also. Experience in a unit, good resume (at least I think so), except getting automatic rejection letters. No one is even looking at it my resume or cover letter. I'm missing some "key" word I guess. I say keep applying, what the heck. Maybe the nurse manager got your resume confused with someone elses :)

Of course if you don't know anyone on the unit, it is hard to say for sure, but the jobs could be posted specifically with a candidate in mind, i.e. a PRN employee.

I would reapply. It shows interest. Not sure why 5 years was not enough experience. Would be good to follow through on this.I would reapply as long as you are qualified and interested. ;-) Best wishes!

I would reapply, if you're still interested in the job. It's a different posting, so it couldn't hurt.

I'm curious- is the experience recent? Is it RN experience? If it's been many years since you worked in Peds, or if you worked under another job title, then you may not have the specific experience they want.

Thanks I think I will reapply. Yes my experience is recent i have been a peds RN with my BSN since 2006 when i graduated and there's no gaps.

It could also be the degree you hold. They might want a BSN ? even if you have experience, especially if it is magnet. But the email may say not qualified. I just lost a positon because HR wanted the BSN which is in progess but they wanted it completed. THE DON PULLED THE JOB AND CHECKED MY REFERENCES and was calling to hire me then HR refused to let them. they fought it out and the DON lost. she told me to come back after bsn is done..Complete upset:9

The hospital is Magnet... however i do have my BSN. Also when you apply online the automatic email states "we are looking over your experience and qualifications and if they are suitable for the position HR will contact you." Hr contacted me the very next day asking if i was looking for weekends only or full time and that she would forward my info to the nurse manager. The only requirements in the posting were pediatric experience preferred and BSN. I definitely met that criteria and i couldn't even get an interview. Oh well.....

I have over analyzed what happened to me too much. I know i'm than qualified for that job and i have strong back ground in pediatrics. I don't know what they want and perhaps they had someone in mind for the position already. But why call me in the first place? Anyway... I have an interview at another community hospital tues (fingers crossed).

That's crazy the HR wouldn't let you have the position even after the DON gave you the job. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I'm guessing there was probably someone who applied for the position (internal applicant, family member of an employee) who was pretty much guaranteed the position, but the hospital still had to post it for legal purposes. Sometimes the hospital unit gets to create a position for someone, but doesn't inform HR about their plans. Saying that you didn't meet the qualifications is just their way of backing out of explaining the real reasoning.

Good luck with this new posting.

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to update you all. Nurse Recruitment called me this morning stating that the email was sent by mistake and my application was mixed up with someone else's. And have an interview set up next week.

Good luck. I hope all goes well and you get the position you want!
