  1. hey purple butterfly! I did complete my MSN with WGU, I learned a lot and I loved it for the most part. I did NOT continue for my FNP cert. I decided before I started WGU, I wasn't going to pursue it. My only concern with WGU is how your credits may be viewed in a "competitive" program such as the post-masters FNP. Plus, WGU is "competency" based, so if you pass the course you get a "B" = the best you could come out with is a 3.0, which might not be enough for some FNP programs. Just a few things to be aware of. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!
  2. I hate when employers act like that. Knowing they could fire you or downsize or do whatever else they wanted without a moment’s notice but yet expect “loyalty” at all costs from its employees. I don’t get it. You would think they would be appreciative of the advanced notice. Oh well, just take solace knowing you are moving on …. I fully expect to be escorted out of the building if/when I accept the VA offer regardless of the notice I give. They are not going to be happy with me. But hey, that might be better than the scowls you are having to deal with for the next month, lol.
  3. So I took the advice (thank you pfchang and mdrn1974!) and emailed the recruiter and HR regarding my deal breaking dilemma. She responded this morning saying they completely understood and it was not a problem to provide references from past co-workers and supervisor. WHEW, I’m so relieved! Set up my physical, Vetpro completed and professional society memberships joined :) Now, on to this insanely long qualification supplemental questionnaire. To be continued ....
  4. Thanks pfchang - I will reach out to the recruiter on Monday. Hopefully an exception can be made because honestly that is a deal breaker for me and I'd hate that - I've come so far already!
  5. I received a tentative offer from the VA today. I was so excited but stopped in my tracks when I realized they are requesting a recommendation from my CURRENT supervisor. There is no way I can provide that at this point. I would be fired. The VA has already contacted a former supervisor & I have a glowing annual eval from my current supervisor to share. Is there away around this requirement?? Any advice??
  6. Recent interview experience - the interviewee stated she had other interviews lined up but after my interview was not going to pursue them. She said she was going to be out of the office for the remainder of the week for a funeral but I would hear something by the beginning of the following week. That was 3 weeks ago. Since then, the job has been reposted. **blank stare** WTH.
  7. What do your friends think of the program so far? I have been looking at EKU but a little nervous about it being completely on-line. I'm back & forth about this approach for me. I think I may feel more confident in classroom environment for the NP portion rather then the "self taught" online style.
  8. I was never able to find a collection of that information anywhere either. Now, if you wanted to avoid the GRE that's a different story! lol .... I contacted the three schools I am interested in for my post MSN NP cert - two of the three said they only consider undergrad GPA anyway. The other program - depending on the competitiveness of the year, it could be a factor... But, all in all, the two schools that didn't care were state schools (= less expensive) so, I went for it.
  9. I'm going to WGU right now for an MSN - leadership/management. If all goes well over the next few months, it will have taken me 9-10 months to complete the entire program. Total cost - a whomping $6,790.00 .. I did some research prior to starting the program since I'm also considering a post-master FNP certificate. The only negative I can say about this route, at the time I signed up, they did not offer advanced assessment, pharm, or pathophys. All of which are requirements prior to applying to most FNP programs. I believe this has since changed in WGU’s program. …. This plan of attack won’t necessarily save me any time, but its going to save me a bucket load in cash. Good Luck!
  10. Update on how this situation unfolded .... The complainer never come to me. I overheard them talking it out between themselves. I try not to micro-manage too much. My nurses in general work hard and are professionals. I try to treat them as such. I found many times they work it out just as grown professionals should :) @ [COLOR=#003366]Carolina Southpaw, This is going in my back pocket. I love this ... "hey I noticed that while such and such was going on that you were on the phone (or whatever she was doing). Can you explain those choices to me?" Listen to what she has to say. Thank you all for your advice. ...
  11. I can see what's coming... I want to have my ducks in a row before the conversation emerges so I thought I would reach out to you more seasoned managers for some pointers. An employee is going to complain about another co-worker being too busy. Here's the thing, I have noticed her being bossy, but it's because the complainer plays around and slacks at key times. So, in watching this unfold I've made some changes to job responsibilities, implemented some rules about phones, and other "play" time activities in attempt to nip it. When she complains I'm thinking about asking her if she has thought about why the other employee is asking her to do things/being "bossy"? Maybe try to let her come to the conclusion she needs to take more initiative? Both employees bring valuable things to the table, but very different things. I want to take her complaint serious, but also take the opportunity to address her behavior. Anyone want to weigh in on the most effective way to manage this? Sorry it got long winded!
  12. Billing can be very complicated with continuous updates & changes. I recently took a billing seminar for my particular area. It was very helpful. It included many different professionals and numerous MD/NP's in attendance. I think as a provider it is important to have a handle on insurance, but I don't know that I would concentrate on reimbursement rates since they can vary so much. Maybe look into understanding what documentation is needed in order to prior auth particular services in your speciality, or if, heavan forbid, an audit. It would also be helpful to know what has to be billed as a group vs what can billed as seperate charges, etc. It may change the order in which you provide certain services to patients so you can get paid accordingly. And of course, its always helpful to learn those medications/products that are insanely expensive w/ or w/o insurance. Lets face it, if patients can't afford them, it doesn't do any good prescribing them. It's crazy how much power insurance companies have in dictating the type of care patients receive and providers are able to give. Good luck in your journey!
  13. Wow, great idea. I've never even thought about that! I'm guessing I would need to contact the local university's to see what their requirements are for us to be assigned an intern. I don't want to sound winey & no boss wants to hear "I can't", it's not for lack of trying.
  14. I'm looking for a tactful, effective way to tell my boss there isn't enough time in one the day to give the attention required to these 3 tasks. I spend every moment at work, well working :) on a clinic that has been neglected for years. After the clinical aspect & admin part, it really only leaves a few hours a week for marketing & declining our numbers are showing it. I work hard, but Im not sure anyone could keep up. Any suggestions on how to approach without getting fired? lol - I do love my job otherwise.
  15. Hi, I'm getting ready to take the certified wound care nurse exam. Anyone who has taken it already have any study pointers? Besides the WOCNCB site, were you able to locate any other practice test questions?
