I know that it's early, but I really wanted to get a jump on this. I have read the past two years' threads from start to finish and have seen the amazing support given by everyone involved. Considering how competitive it is for nursing school admission, it is extremely informative and heart-warming. I will be applying to all the schools in the Portland/Salem area to which I will qualify. This next year is going to be rough, but ever since I started on this journey I have loved every moment.
A little about me:
Again, I know this is early, but I look forward to seeing the responses from everyone!
For all you ladies who got accepted at OHSU: First of all CONGRATULATIONS! I am currently working on my prerequisites for the 3-yr program and was wondering whether you could help me answer a question: Have you all taken a Chemistry class? So far, I have a 4.0 GPA in all my classes including Micro. I was originally not planning on taking Chemistry, but now I'm wondering whether it would greatly improve my changes for getting accepted next year. Also, do you think that completing an AAOT or AS of General Studies would make a difference?
Completing a chemistry course and microbiology course will give you an advantage for OHSU's program (it is not required but they ask if you've completed either course on the prerequisite form). And Microbiology is a requirement to apply to Linfield College. Just do the most you can before applications are due--no one thing may prevent you from getting into a program but any of these will help give you an advantage! Good luck to you!
Hello,
I've been active for a short time on another thread but thought I would join the conversation here. I've been accepted/waitlisted to a few programs but narrowed my choices between Linfield's Accelerated BSN (15 months) and OHSU Portland BSN (3 yrs). Still having a hard time deciding...should I go for the faster program or the better clinical placement? Any thoughts?
Well, that is totally your call. The shorter program sounds more ideal to me. I know that Linfield students get placed at legacy hospital sites and the VA hospital if those sound good to you. My partner goes to Linfield, although not accelerated and he has enjoyed his clinical sites and he said the accelerated crew enjoys their program and sites too(which will be the same or better at times). I would love to go to Linfield myself. I have heard great things about it.
It's on the fourth at 5pm. I know PCC has all wait listed and accepted students go (at least I think), maybe CCC is different. I would email them and find out. Also, I think CCC calls you to offer a spot off the wait list and PCC emails. I am guessing today ppl will start getting calls from CCC.
Wilsosta - I am waitlisted at CCC and I just checked my email to review whether or not I'm supposed to go to the orientation and it says to go. It's 6/4 from 5-7p. Alewis513 is right...their deadline was last Friday and I bet they'll start contacting people on the waitlist towards the end of this week.
Regarding PCC and how they contact people, I actually went into the nursing dept office this morning and asked. I was told that they will call you first and then all the paperwork and correspondence will be sent over email. But, if you're on the waitlist and waiting to hear, you will receive a call first. However, she also noted that we won't hear anything from PCC until after their deadline (6/13) and its likely that they won't notify anyone until AFTER the orientation on 6/18 (cause people don't show up and if you miss the orientation and don't make prior arrangements, you forfeit your spot).

The kindle for textbooks specifically is terrible. They are poorly laid out, the pictures are often missing, the links are odd and broken, there are no page numbers (only kindle location numbers), the search capability is horribly slow. The text experience is just severely lacking in the kindle environment. It makes a big difference if you are used to Kno or CourseSmart or Pearson digital textbooks.
