Applicants to Portland/Salem Area Nursing Schools 2014

Published

I know that it's early, but I really wanted to get a jump on this. I have read the past two years' threads from start to finish and have seen the amazing support given by everyone involved. Considering how competitive it is for nursing school admission, it is extremely informative and heart-warming. I will be applying to all the schools in the Portland/Salem area to which I will qualify. This next year is going to be rough, but ever since I started on this journey I have loved every moment.

A little about me:

  • I am 33, married, no kids.
  • I live in Salem and have taken the bulk of my prerequisites at Chemeketa.
  • I have been working as a Dental Assistant for 2 years and feel that it is supremely unfair that many of the OCNE schools do not count dental assisting towards their "direct patient care" discretionary points. (I went to school for a year to become a dental assistant. I have dealt with medical emergencies, bodily fluids and have had my fingers in mouths on a daily basis! I'm grumbling, I know.)
  • I have a 4.0 GPA (so far) for all of the OCNE prerequisites (My single B in one of three Chemistry classes will haunt me when I apply to Linfield)
  • I am still one term away from finishing my prerequisites for the majority of the schools to which I plan on applying
  • I don't really think that I will be lucky enough to be accepted to any of the Portland-area community colleges due to my lack of necessary discretionary points (if any of you CURRENT students have found otherwise, I would be very interested to find out what you know!)
  • I will be applying anyway, because I know that I should at least make it onto a waiting list or two and as I have seen in previous threads - they do go through their waiting lists!
  • I sincerely hope that all my hard work will pay off and that I will be accepted SOMEWHERE

Again, I know this is early, but I look forward to seeing the responses from everyone!

I just went through it and I didn't see it. I plan to look through it more thoroughly tomorrow.

I'm going to accept OHSU BSN's offer and decline both the MHCC fall cohort and Clackamas offers so two people from the waiting list will move up!

Me too. I am now 100% sure that I will attend OHSU. Sending in the deposit this week.

I think PCC's announcements go out tomorrow! Good luck you guys!

Got the ohsu packet on Saturday.waiting for pcc result.

I am sooooo happy that I got into OHSU! I just spoke with their financial aid office regarding notification of eligibility packets. They said that they are still working on summer 2014 aid award packets, and no date yet as to when packets will be sent out to the fall 2014 admits. I'm still sort of hoping I make it off of the wait list at U of P. Anyone else headed there?

Congrats on your OHSU acceptance, Penny_Cillin!

I am in at U of P starting in January. So excited!!

Got accepted to PCC's Nursing program. I'm so excited! However, CCC is still my first choice, so I hope to get off the wait list and get into their, hopefully. All and all, I'm just happy to know that I will start a Nursing program in the Fall somewhere!

Penny-Cillin, if you do not mind me asking...why do you have a preference for UP? While I did not apply to OHSU, I almost wish I had as their program is significantly less expensive than UP. (Stupid private school tuition!) Don't get me wrong, I am exceedingly pleased to be going and their reputation is stellar, but ugh. 90K for two years education is daunting. I don't qualify for grants as this is my second bachelor's, so I hope to get some scholarships.

Hi everyone. I am new to the thread. I just wanted to say congrats to everyone who was accepted to programs. I applied to several and have been placed on the wait list for a couple. I was wondering if anyone knows the date that OHSU offers must be accepted or declined by? I am an alternate at OHSU and have a status of being "highly likely" to be offered a spot for the fall term. I just wanted to know about how long I might have to wait to hear if I am in or not. The waiting game is so hard play!

Cheers

I got accepted to PCC's nursing program. Im still pretty sure I want to go to OHSU but I feel like the cost of PCC might be worth it. I have heard some not so awesome stuff about PCC and its a little bit of a drive compared to OHSU. Anyone else struggling with this decision as well?

Those accepted to OHSU have until 6/15 to accept their spot.
