Applicants to Portland area schools 2011

How's everyone doing with their Apps?

I applied to MHCC, CCC, PCC and Linfield.

It's my first year applying and I'm a nervous wreck!!!

How long does it usually take to hear whether or not you got an interview?

I was glad to see CCC changed their deadline to Feb 15th like the other OCNE schools-I think it'll make the waiting more bearable!

Anyone else want to share points to see how tight the competition is this year?

Other than Mt. Hood, I don't get too many discretionary points. :(

Heres what I *think* I have (figuring them myself):

MHCC-63 points

CCC-50 or 51 points depending on how they round up your gpa

PCC-54 points

Good luck everyone!!!

Let the nail biting, stalking the mailbox begin! :lol2:

The wait is killing me as well!! There is not going to be any strike. They resolved their issues!

No they have not resolved their issues and strike is pretty much going to happen at this point.

PDXMHT, I had it today too and I also only wrote slightly more than a page. I thought people were typing like crazy and full two pages.

Haha I know what ya mean, I swear I saw smoke coming off some of those keyboards. It took me 10 tries just to get my first sentence. I don't think you needed to fill both pages because I assume they don't want a bunch of fluff.

I got my "official" rejection notice from CCC today! Weee. Minimum points required to make the first cut are 58 (I wish they would have published that BEFORE I spent the $40 or whatever to apply). Even with my perfect GPA, the only way you can get up to those points is to have a prior degree. I don't know why it's fair to have to have a prior degree to get accepted into these programs. Many people don't... that's why they are back in college, and I think that the grades are a pretty good indicator of how successful you are as a student. It almost feels like the circular problem of: "I would like to apply for college." "OK, do you have a prior degree?" "No." "I sorry, I'm afraid you're not college material then." I worked my ass off over the last 14-16 months to get perfect grades, sacrificed my free time to study late and on weekends, and really put everything into being the best. Just a little frustrated is all. Rant over :banghead:

I have a couple prior degrees and a 4.0 and didn't get into CCC. What killed me was the lack of CNA hours (and no points for the CNA b/c I didn't take it there), and not taking any classes there. I lost out on nine possible extra points.

I just got my CCC rejaction letters :crying2:.

I'm assuming you mean Clackamas Community College. Did they wait-list you?

I got my expected rejection letter from Clackamas....when are they holding their interviews?

Mt Hood is really irking my noodles with all their different "promised" dates of when they've supposedly mailed the letters.

I'm having crazy weird dreams every.single.night from all this anxiety about the interview. haha

Last night, around 1am I woke up on the couch and don't remember WHY I moved out there but I know it was because of something I dreamt about.

The night before that, I dreamt my mom's cats were trying to kill me (they could fly) and it only happened after she went to bed.

I wake in cold sweats nearly every night.

My poor fiance wakes up to me either talking in my sleep or sitting up and feeling around the bed like I'm looking for something and he can't wake me up for nothing.

I JUST WANT MY STINKING LETTER ALREADY! :lol2:

I feel for you guys waiting on MHCC... If it's any consolation, I got my refund check for the part-time program they cancelled yesterday. Hopefully, they're getting on with the admission letters.

As for the PCC essay, it took me a while to get started, too. I'm a confident writer, and I'd rather have my page and a quarter that's grammatically tight and flows well while answering the questions than a quantity of unorganized thoughts. That's what I tell myself, anyway! I doubt anyone feels great after a proctored essay - it's easy to think of what else you could have written after the fact.

Yeah, I knocked out two full pages that seemed good to me. There's another factor in the mix a lot of people don't consider. That is the disposition of the people at the moment of reading the essays. It's so subjective. In either case, I'll get a letter one way or another indicating my status.

What was the essay topic for PCC, if I may ask? The Clackamas interviews are May 5th, 6th and 9th. There may be more dates than that but those're the options I was given.

You nailed it - my better half sits on two local admission boards for another health care related profession and we talk about this a lot. No matter how structured a review points rubric may be, there is always the subjectivity of the reader and the type and quality of the info provided by the applicant. She feels strongly that this is a major weakness in those programs that do not interview and tells countless stories of strong paper candidates that have turned out to be a complete waste of time after meeting in interviews. A bit of a rant .... As I hope for a MHCC interview letter.
