How's everyone doing with their Apps?
I applied to MHCC, CCC, PCC and Linfield.
It's my first year applying and I'm a nervous wreck!!!
How long does it usually take to hear whether or not you got an interview?
I was glad to see CCC changed their deadline to Feb 15th like the other OCNE schools-I think it'll make the waiting more bearable!
Anyone else want to share points to see how tight the competition is this year?
Other than Mt. Hood, I don't get too many discretionary points.
Heres what I *think* I have (figuring them myself):
MHCC-63 points
CCC-50 or 51 points depending on how they round up your gpa
PCC-54 points
Good luck everyone!!!
Let the nail biting, stalking the mailbox begin!
now for the essay...does anyone have experience with what questions they ask? and how many of them are there? i searched through some of the threads here but i guess i am hoping for something more specific on what to expect.
good luck and/or congratulations to everyone!
first question: what is the circumference of a dimple on a golf ball?
second question: how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll lollipop?
I just received my rejection letter....boooo. The letter stated there were 883 applications this year. I was surprised, I thought there would've been more. Good luck to everyone who has made it to the essay/interview round and to the students who get into the nursing program! Hopefully next year is my year.
Klee07,
Share with us what you applied with? Pts, GPA, work experience, prior degrees?
Thanks,
K
Hey Airbender,I don't know about that because when I was with my counselor I specifically asked her about this and she said 100 hours volunteering ... oh well. It's in the past!
My 2+ years with the PCC advisors has not provided me with accurate information, I have to say. After a few meetings with the health admissions advisors, I realized I had to become my own source of guidance. It sounds like she misread the the application.
But congrats on getting invited to the essay! And you too, laflorablanca!
And klee... It's always a bummer to get a rejection. Good luck with your other options...
Here's the info on the essay from last year: continues on to the next page...

Well....it looks like I'm up for an essay at PCC. April 19th at 1PM. It says I'm student number 1067, and the essay question is.....hmmm....I can barely read it. I'll let you know when I can. :-)
My application stats: 59.7 pts, CNA, a couple prior college degrees, and no health related work experience.

I figured I had close to 50 pts, which obviously isn't even close to what the people that were invited to the essay had. My GPA was about 3.75. It kind of sucks because I have all A's except in math, I have an Associates degree. I also have my CNA but no experience, but that would not have mattered. I basically didn't get any discretionary points. I didn't expect to get in the first year I applied. I'm thinking of applying at Clark. Does anyone know anything about their nursing program? Airbender - thanks for the well wishes. Good luck to you too!
MHCC said they will send them out the 2nd week of April. Also, Clark is good, but you wont be consided until you have all the classes done. I was planning to apply there, but found out right before the deadline that I need wr123 also because I took the first two when they were 3 credits...
Well, I got my invitation to PCC's essay today as well, scheduled for the 19th. I have no worries about the essay... writing comes naturally for me, plus I'm guessing it is similar to OHSU's essay which I took a few months back. Going in I have a 4.0GPA in everything, including foreign language, statistics and a bunch of forward-looking general ed courses. I have no CNA or medical related experience, nor any prior college degrees. I do have an extensive background in medical illustration/animation which is "interesting", but of course they don't give out points for that :)
All in all I'm pleased to see I've made it this far. I don't know exactly how many points I clocked out at, but I think it was at 59. I find it interesting that they award you an extra point for getting a 'B' in A&P I, but no real extra kudos for getting an 'A' in it other than the initial 5 points.
Still waiting on confirmation from OHSU as my #1 choice, but PCC would be great as well. I wonder how long after the essays do the final letters go out. Should be interesting to see.
