Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!
I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.
Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!!
Good luck to everyone who applied!
My overall impression of MH was that the campus is old and icky... I took night school classes there when I was in HS and I didn't like it. The parking lots are big and scary and not well lit, and the parking seems so far from the classes!I do agree on the commute as well. MH is way out there, I went to HS by Mount Hood and lived on 148th and Stark when I was younger. I will tell you from experience that there are 100 ways that commute can be messed up in both directions.
Since the law limits the number of students per nurse in each class to 20 I don't know that a smaller program will be a benefit. I imagine even 100 of us at PCC will be split into 5 cohorts of 20.
A friend of mine also interviewed at MH and said that the program director was quite impressive in the interview and I trust her judgement.
I think you will win either way.

My first choice was Clark, but after factoring in all the hours in the car to and from and the price of fuel and maintenance when I am not working and my Hubby is footing the bill I decided that I would prefer PCC since it is 3 miles away.
For the sake of all the ladies and gents out there who are waitlisted, I hope everyone lucky enough to be choosing between schools can come to a decision they are at peace with soon.
I anyone else feeling like.. forget summer break
LETS START RIGHT NOW!!!!!
Who is going to PCC and wants to Carpool?
I'm possibly interested in carpooling, I live in Beaverton and can drive. I have a big minivan, though I will be dropping my son off at daycare in the morning. Anyone else have young children and starting nursing school? My son is 2 :-)
hi all,
received my last letter and that was from ccc, and got denied one last time :) it was nice and an immense pleasure knowing you all! i am very happy for those that got in , y'all deserve it and am sure you can make great nurses. please stick to your dreams! my fellow future rns, just remember, after you begin the nursing program and start to have difficulty w/ classes, please don't start to complain about your instructors or how hard the courses are, because there are others like the good old kurdrn who recieved denials after denials and kept wishing and praying to be sitting there right next to you in the interviews, proctored essays, and in nursing school, but never made it. nonetheless, i am going to take the summer off and restart again in the fall or look into different options. once again, congrats to all of you who got in or waitlisted and wish the best of luck to all those that are in the same boat, arch, or ship as i am :)
also, and immense thanks to all those who have supported me (by crossing their fingers, toes, legs, maybe eyes) and even those that provided one letter of advice (i don't know if that is possible, but if it was) !!! loved this forum and am glad i joined it, otherwise i would have been depressed as h&^%ll :) (excuse my german!).
god bless-
kurd(not rn)
Sorry to hear about your denials Kurd, I know how hard we've all worked to get here. This certainly isn't the end of the road, though waiting another year is not a pleasing prospect. I'm not out of the woods yet as I have my interview on Thurs so I could possibly be in the same boat. Good Luck~
I have been in the same boat kurdrn. Last year I was denied at every school I applied to. I applied again this year and was denied at all but one school but didn't do so well in the interview. Last year I felt ready to give up for a couple weeks but decided I have worked too hard to not try again and again and again if I have to. I hope that can appreciate what you have accomplished and will not give up!
pdxMHT and deasiac, Thanks for your kind words! I am definitely not giving up! I don't care how long or what it takes. Thanks a bunch!
pdxMHT, good luck on the interview on Thursday, I am sure you'll do well. No need to stress (easy for me to say).
deasiac, I am sure you did great on that interview and you'll get in. Wish you the best of luck!
Oh KurdRn, I'm so sorry to hear it. I have been hoping and praying for you. Like the others said, don't give up. Remember that there are other paths to get to the same destination... have you gotten your CNA? Have you finished the pre-reqs? Are there any you can retake for better grades?
I will remember your words and take them to heart if I feel like quitting or complaining.
I will count on meeting you as a nurse someday. All the best, Jen Miller
Dear KurdRN,
Thank you for your support. You are a wonderfull person who always make other feel better.THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS!!!!! You are one of a kind and I will always remember you. You will for sure make it into a nursing school and be a great nurse one day.!!!! Maybe it is in the God's plan for you to go to school next year. Who knows? Medical field needs more nurses with your personality. I learned a lot from you. Thank you.:redbeathe
Kurdrn, Thank you for your support and kind words. I wish you the best of luck! Please, don't give up on your passion. I believe you will make a wonderful nurse!!!:) Btw I'm not sure if your aware that George Fox University has a nursing program and they're located in Newberg,OR. And their application process starts this summer for Spring 2011 admission... not sure if your interested in a private institution, but I've heard great things about their nursing program. However, an admission exam(TEAS test) is required for part of their application process. :)
P.S. Just FYI... last year according to OCNE's statistics about 5,ooo students that applied were qualified applicants for the nursing program they applied to, but due to lack of spots, staff, and clinical sites these students were turned away.

Jen Miller, no need to apologize, unless you were part of the schools application process, just kidding :) . THANK YOU! I appreciate your kind words as well. I do not have a CNA, but I have been and working MA for the past 5 years and have finished all my Prereqs. I don't like to retake my "B" for "A"... couple of reason, I don't know for sure if I will get an "A" this time, waste of money for just bumping up one grade, also it still won't guarantee me into a program. However, I will still look into it. I haven't thought out much about it yet, but I am sure I'll think of a plan soon. I appreciate your kind advice! Best of luck to you as well!

Actually for clinicals, you can't have more than 8 students for every instructor.....so you theory classes will likely be much larger, but you'll have a clinical group of 8 or less.
