Applicants to PDX area Nursing Schools 2010

Published

Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!

I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.

Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!! :banghead:

Good luck to everyone who applied!

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone that got invited or accepted!!!!!!!! :yeah::yeah::yeah: :ancong!:

Seems like a lot happened today! I'm still waiting on my CCC letter...seems like mine usually comes a couple of days after everyone else receives theirs! I also think my mail man will be happy once I get the letter! As well as my man! He says that there should be a support group for him and others that have to deal with us pre-nursing students! Hahahaha

WOW!!!! Lots of congratulations to all of you who got in!!!! :D :D :D Way to go!

And for those of you on the waiting/alternate lists.... hang in there. As andie has indicated, many of those who have been accepted to these programs have been accepted to most of the programs they've applied to, or are on alternate lists, so your chances of getting in are probably much higher than you think! Hang in there!!!!

Desiac, yes, they do have an alternate list for interviews. Mt Hood did also, but they never called me.

I have to be available to get there(CCC) on the short notice for 3 days, from 7:30 am to 4:45 pm.

I don't have any illusions about receiving a call.

My friend called alternate list "a booty call" list. Very descriptive.

I am on the waitlist for PCC. Number 9. So keep your fingers crossed. :) Does anyone know when they will start letting people on the waitlist know they have a spot? I hope for my family's sanity it is soon.

Congratulation to everyone that got in. :clpty:

As people return their letters with a Yes or No they will start calling the waitlist.

There will be several right away, then more as people get accepted to other schools.

hi everyone,

i'm new to this forum, but i already love it. i got accepted into mhcc and pcc, and now i'm trying to decide which one i want. originally, pcc was my top pick because i did all my pre-reqs there and it's closer to my home, but now i'm wondering about the overall quality of the two programs. training? instructors? organization? clinicals? anyone have anything to say about any of it? i know most of us haven't experienced either program firsthand so it's mostly speculation, but i'm open to any information out there.

hopefully, this won't turn into a "my school is better than yours!" battle. just looking for constructive comments. thanks! and congrats to everyone who got accepted/waitlisted!

Welcome Hedgehog!

Yes, this is a great forum and so helpful to all of us trying to figure this all out on our own...

Your question is a good one, and I imagine we should get some good feedback. If not, try making a new thread with this question. I think that most people can only speak on their own school. Did you visit each? You may get a better feel for which you like best by getting to see it firsthand. You're fortunate to have two schools from which to pick!!

My feeling is that both will be comparable because of OCNE. I'd personally go with the one close to home because you'll spend so much time commuting for two years, and you'll despise that aspect of it. Just my 2 cents!

Good luck, Jen

I am realizing today that maybe the fact that I didn't get a letter from CCC may be because I didn't get invited to the interview??? Does anyone know if they send out a letter for you to know that you did not get invited. I'm just kinda sitting here stocking my mail man and driving home to check it periodically! :) Maybe I shouldn't be waiting for a letter if I was not invited? Please help!

I am in the exact same boat! I am leaning toward MHCC b/c it is a smaller program, and it's not their first year as an OCNE school. I have to say that the instructors made a good impression on me at the interview. I am very curious to hear what people have to say about this!

Purple Rose,

Have you tried calling CCC? I think they sent out all of the letters the same day. If I were you I would give CCC a call. Good Luck to you. :redbeathe I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

My overall impression of MH was that the campus is old and icky... I took night school classes there when I was in HS and I didn't like it. The parking lots are big and scary and not well lit, and the parking seems so far from the classes!

I do agree on the commute as well. MH is way out there, I went to HS by Mount Hood and lived on 148th and Stark when I was younger. I will tell you from experience that there are 100 ways that commute can be messed up in both directions.

Since the law limits the number of students per nurse in each class to 20 I don't know that a smaller program will be a benefit. I imagine even 100 of us at PCC will be split into 5 cohorts of 20.

A friend of mine also interviewed at MH and said that the program director was quite impressive in the interview and I trust her judgement.

I think you will win either way.:twocents:

My first choice was Clark, but after factoring in all the hours in the car to and from and the price of fuel and maintenance when I am not working and my Hubby is footing the bill I decided that I would prefer PCC since it is 3 miles away.

For the sake of all the ladies and gents out there who are waitlisted, I hope everyone lucky enough to be choosing between schools can come to a decision they are at peace with soon.

I anyone else feeling like.. forget summer break  LETS START RIGHT NOW!!!!! :D Who is going to PCC and wants to Carpool?
