Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!
I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.
Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!!
Good luck to everyone who applied!
I just got my letter from pcc and didn't get an interveiw with 54 points:(. Haven't heard from mt.hood yet. Anyone one else app to mt. Hood and not receive a letter yet? I'm getting tired of running to the mail box~
pdxMHT,
When I read your msg, I thought it was one I wrote prev... LOL !!! Because I am on the same page as you are. Recieved my denial letter from PCC couple of days ago, and have not heard from MHCC yet. In addition, 2010_Student is driving me crazy! Getting all these acceptance letters, I think I know what our problem is... Just kidding, just kidding! I am very happy for him/her! 2010_Student, if you read this by any chance, please understand that I am joking :-) an IMMENSE CONGRATS TO YOU !!! Aloso, I am really... really... tired of running to the mailbox every day as well! Will let you know if I get something. Hopefully this one will be good news :-) Keeping my fingers, hands, legs, toes, etc... crossed :-)
I got a letter from PCC and I was invited to a proctored essay.I applied with 60 points.
I applied with 58 points and got denied. I guess 59 or 60 is the cut-off! However, I did get into Linfield - I felt like my chances would be better at Linfield because you turn in essays from the get-go. Or maybe they had less applicants?
Good luck at the essay at PCC, congrats!

if you go to the nursing admission website at any school, and download the info packet, you will be able to calculate your points. FWIW, I got an interview at Mt. Hood w/ 52 points, and one at PCC w/ 56 points.
Hey monkey, I would double check your points and maybe give PCC a call to find out what was up since 2010_student said they got an invite with 56 points.
I applied and got an invite to the proctored essay with 60 points, as well.
Good Luck to you.
Hi Monkeyduty,
I'd double check your points too, and give them a call if that is what you have! In response to your statement about Linfield, I've been thinking about that one too. Linfield is a transfer school, so they get more applicants like myself with a previous degree. This narrows the field a bit as well as having a few more prerequisite requirements (including micro and statistics) than the CC schools. They also have three cohorts to admit, so they are able to admit more students than the CC schools overall. The cost is prohibitive, so many of the people I know that should have applied, didn't apply. Congrats on your acceptance to Linfield! It's very selective, and the point system for OCNE does not consider your life experiences and temperament like the essays for Linfield do (at least in that first round.) BTW I didn't get into the interview round with PCC, yet was accepted to Linfield because of my background, my previous degree and life experiences (I'm a mother of four, and have lived internationally and done loads of volunteer work) as well as good grades. It is a more overall evaluation than the point system.
I'm excited to be able to go to Linfield! (Fall 2010 cohort). They have a wonderful facility (it rivals OHSU) and the critical thinking aspect sets it apart. Once per week, 8 students meet with one faculty member to go over the week's events and share perspectives with one another. How fabulous is that?!
Update on Mt. Hood
For those of you who have not received your letters yet:
I called them today and they said letters are being mailed out today or tomorrow.
Since some people already posted that they have received their invitations, I guess, and I am speculating, rest of us will get our rejection letters soon;) !

Thank you... thank you... for the update! Nothing in the mail today for me. Hopefully I'll receive something tomorrow and it will be good news and NOT a REJECTION LETTER. Stop saying that! I am very optimistic :-) At least I try to be.
