Applicants to PDX area Nursing Schools 2010

Published

Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!

I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.

Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!! :banghead:

Good luck to everyone who applied!

I called CCC a week ago and they said we should get the invitation letter no later than the beginning of May and the interview will be towards the end of May. Then followed by a mandatory orientation on June 11th upon acceptance!!! So at least we find out soon after the interview if we're accepted or not! Sooooooo excited and nervous! I hope I get in somewhere! I only have ccc and ohsu left. Waitlisted at a decent number at UP though....but still...it's not guaranteeeeeeeeeed!

Thank you for your application to the Mt. Hood Community College Nursing program

starting Fall 2010 / Winter 2011. While your application is complete, you have not been

selected at this time for an interview. However, as Nursing schools are very competitive,

MHCC applicants often receive offers from other Nursing schools. Every year, a few of

our applicants decline prior to their scheduled MHCC interview, which creates a vacancy

in the interview pool.

If an applicant declines the interview, you are eligible to be contacted for an interview. If

you do not wish to be contacted for an interview with the Nursing Program, please

contact Judy Froehlich, at 503-491-7341.

You are encouraged to reapply for Fall 2011 admission into this program or any other

Allied Health Programs. If you do reapply for 2011 admission into the Nursing program,

you will need to review the new application thoroughly.

The Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education is currently reviewing the Nursing

application packet. Upon completion of their review, our college will post the 2011

application packet on our website. If you have any questions regarding the content of

this letter, please contact the Admissions/Transcript Evaluator for the Nursing program,

at 503-491-7341.

Thank you for your interest in Mt. Hood Community College and good luck in

your educational pursuits.

jenmiller,

Those are the exact reasons I thought I would have a better chance to getting into nursing school at Linfield - More cohorts, higher tuition (although I was counting on more financial aid....) , essay in the initial application - you stated it well. It's a more well-rounded evaluation of an applicant than looking at grades.

I haven't double checked my points yet for PCC but I think I will now! Even so, I think I will go to Linfield just to save that extra year. I guess I'll be seeing you in the fall! :yeah:

just to jump in here...for those that got rejection letters, especially from Mt Hood, do not fret just yet.

A large number of those in the current graduating class got the same letter, but became alternates, and then were called just a few short weeks before classes started in September. now they are graduating.

so you never know. even though you got a rejection, you could hear from the school at any time and they will say there is a spot open for you if you want it. just depends on how things play out and where other people decide to accept.

Mt. Hood is an absolutely wonderful program, very supportive instructors and great clinical sites. I'd recommend it over CCC by leaps and bounds. I have friends who went there who complained non-stop for 2 years about the program. Mt Hood students have few complaints and are welcomed with open arms everywhere they go and are often hired before students from other schools. if you have a choice between Mt Hood and another school, choose MH. You won't regret it. and don't give up hope, rejectees, just wait it out...see what happens, and keep studying in the meantime. good luck.:clown:

Purple Rose,

:tku: for the info! I am hoping I get in somewhere as well. I received my denial letter from MHCC today:crying2: That is strike two for me, my hopes are down to CCC and OHSU as well. Hopefully I'll have a littel luck in one of these schools? My :redbeathe is pounding.

To traveler to be:

It is hard to believe that people were called last minute, right before the classes started to fill the spots.

What about the interviews and essays and all that?

and To everybody:

Does anyone know how many people applied to MT Hood FT ADN (RN) program?

kurdRN---ahhhh I'm so sorry to hear about mt hood. :( I know what you mean...I'm sooooo nervous and have knots in my stomach waiting. At least what traveler2be posted should give you a little hope. I've heard that as well....not necessarily mt. hood, but that nursing schools will sometime call you last minute even if you're not on their alternate list. Probably seldom, but at least it's not farfetched. And you have OHSU and CCC left! Those are the two I'm waiting on as well. I think we will hear good news! Stay positive! ;)

Purple rose and Traveler2bee, you make me think to myself and say "I am glad I joined this site!" Thanks for making me feel better, I wanted to shoot myself when I got my second rejection letter:crying2: But now after reading your posts, I feel much better :dncgbby:Hope to hear somthing from CCC or OHSU soon! I hope you are right and from now on we hear nothing, but good news. Wish you the best of luck as well !!!

No shooting yourself allowed!

I like the baby dancing. Here's the thing... there are many routes to our same goal, and we all have that desire to serve others in an amazing field. Keep your hopes up, and remember this is only strengthening you as you go.

All the best, JM

Thank you, Jen.

jenmiller and monkeyduty - I will see you guys in the Fall at Linfield!

purplerose - Today I decided on Linfield, so I will be giving up my spot at UP for the Fall start. I hope you get in!

I wish everybody else peace and persistence until you get to your goal!

That's great, and congratulations on making your decision! How will we find each other?! Maybe we all need to wear a pin to orientation or something! ha ha! See you soon
