Applicants to PDX area Nursing Schools 2010

Published

Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!

I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.

Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!! :banghead:

Good luck to everyone who applied!

only 8 days to go for ohsu, i had to sign up for classes for fall, looking at my bachelors in health sciences just as a fall back plan, i hope everyone else is not driving there loved ones crazy, good luck all

I have everything lined up at WSU for BA in psych. Already retaking 1st of the 2-term A&P sequence (the only B's remaining).

I cannot sit idle until the next appn cycle.

people drop out for all kinds of reasons, even after they accept. they get pregnant during the summer, they have to move or something happens that makes them want to wait to start the program. I heard that one year every single person in the MH program was an alternate, all those that were first accepted chose to go elsewhere. ITT is also adding 110 nursing spots, but i bet it'll be expensive. i;d recommend you keep trying at Mt Hood. getting accepted in a program is one thing, but you want to be accepted into a GOOD program too. ask around...especially recent grads...don't go where you get accepted without considering the quality of the education you will receive. that place may not be the best fit. You are spending 2 years of your life and an amazing amount of hard work and effort. make sure its worth it. be particular in where you choose to go.

PCC Essay this morning - and I do not feel good about it. Wondering if I should RSVP to Linfield after all. Yikes!

I had many false starts for the first question, I decided to move on to Q2 to get confidence up. Then as I was switching back to Q1 she rang the 5 minutes remaining bell. So my essay for question 1 was the best I could throw out in 5 minutes. AARGH!!

I don't know what happened, I just could not get the essay for the first question started. I should have just decided to start somewhere and go from there.

That is my advice to anyone who is wondering what the essay is like - the time is short. It doesn't seem like 45 minutes is a short amt of time when you walk in, I have taken huge A&P finals in less time, but when you are trying to sum up your best qualifications in one page it is an awfully fleeting window of opportunity.

Hi Dharma,

Sorry you didn't feel better after your PCC essay. I have to take mine on Thursday, and am pretty nervous. For what it's worth, I felt awful after my OHSU proctored essay- ran out of time in a big way... I bet a lot of us feel that way, so maybe it was better than you think!

Are you/did you interview with MHCC? I just did today, and they did a great job making us feel comfortable. I felt much more confident, although everyone seemed to do an excellent job.

I am taking my first proctored essay on thursday. I am very nervous. I know they will ask two quesitons but does anyone know how long they want the answers for each one to be? Are they looking for a 5 paragraph essay on each question? That seems kind of hard to do in just 45 minutes.

The total amt allowed for both questions is 2 pages 12pt type double spaced.

Look at the 7 goals for the PCC nursing program to see the types of things they will be looking for in the answers.

Which 7 goals? I have looked all over and see many general qualities and such but I don't see any specific 7 except under program and discipline...

The Nursing Program is based upon a self-care model that incorporates

the concepts of biological, psychosocial/cultural, critical

thinking, communication, health promotion, management and

professional nursing role.

Or is it on the proctored essay part:

The essay questions will not be based on any specific prerequisites or other courses, but will address general factors such as personal values, diversity, communication and critical thinking skills, motivational fitness, tolerance for stress and transferable skills.

I have been under the assumption that it was the things they outlined in the essay part-am I mistaken? I just want to try to be prepared if I can, though not asking for the questions themselves or anything. I hope you did well! I'm EXTREMELY nervous, I interview on Thursday as well...:uhoh3:

2010 Student and Tiffinapit,

Good luck on thursday. Does everyone go in at the same time, or will they have us coming in shift? I am very stressed about it.

Hi MickieLynn,

I go in at 1 pm, which is a fantastic time-thank goodness! I dunno if we go in shifts or what, what time are you scheduled? I am SUPER stressed as well....maybe we ca say hi afterwards if we are scheduled at the same time :-)

2010 Student-when are you scheduled?

I go in at 1:00. I will be glad when it is over.

I am going at 10:30! For some reason I am not that nervous- I think it is because this is the third one I have done. I prepared for my MHCC interview pretty thoroughly (there is only so much you can do). Good luck to everyone! We should all know soon.
