Apollo College myths

Published

I want to say thank you to the people in the Arizona forums. I hope to move there in March. I have been researching all the schools for hours, and the info on this forum has been so valuable, because you can actually talk to people who have had expierence with each school.

About my topic, I have been reading allot of negative things about Apollo College, which I am like 90% sure that is were I will be going.

All the horror stories about accreditation and little old sally who spent 40,000 dollars on an education, and now her credits wont transfer and she has to start over bla, bla, bla.

I just got off the phone with a real nice admin counselor at Apollo. She has been there three years. She told me that they already have Matriculation agreements in place for several schools in Arizona that will accept Apollo credits toward a B.S.N.

You can also tranfer allot of prerequisites in to Apollo, and save allot on tuition. I will have six prerequisites that will transfer by the time I start in July. So, I will be done with R.N. in hand while you community collegers are still waiting to get in. Nothing wrong with that if you are 19 years old living with your Mom and don't have to wory about it, but for the rest of us in the real world with car payments, and rent or you are on the street: We need to get to work Now

Shannah- I got your PM and want to give you further info on your question, but can't figure out how to reply to you, thru this unwieldy forum. Send me another email or PM, I can'tfigure out how to email you directly thru here.

I just got an answer from Apollo in Phoenix about the Devry thing.

Hi Carson,

DeVry is in the process of purchasing our schools and our parent corporation US Education Corp. The deal is not complete as of yet.

You can go on http://www.useducationcorp.com and read the press release from our president.

I don't know if a current student posted the board, but I don't know of any changes that are planned. If the students are talking about changes before I'm aware, it might be a rumor.

So it looks the the Chamberlin College thing could be a Rumor. I believe they will still be Apollo college and have the same instructors and program in Phoenix that they always have. If you notice in the article about the buy out, Devry made it pretty clear that they would retain the employees at Apollo.

The best way to stop a rumor or myth about a subject is to hear the other side. I currently attend Apollo College in Boise, Idaho. I graduated from their LPN program February 2007. I attended Boise State 12 years ago and graduated from the Surgical Technician program. I also completed 3 years of pre-requisites towards my nursing degree. Apollo does allow credits to transfer but there is a time line. Five years for non science classes and five years for undergraduate classes, non science related. The RN requires that you complete English 101-102, psychology, Anatomy 102, microbiology, nutrition, pharmacology, sociology, and communications. If you do not have these classes you can take them through Apollo. The only problem is those credits will not transfer out because they are condensed and do not meet university requirements as full classes. If you transfer those credits in from a University they will transfer back out to a bachelors program. I have had the best experience with Apollo!!!!!! The student to teacher ratio is great. It is true that some of the reps may over exaggerate the flexible schedule, but overall I have learned a great deal. The best thing to do is talk to previous students from Apollo.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Alicia

I just talked to Apollo in Portland. The L.P.N. Program will stay the same

Hi Shannahan,

I am taking the cpat test for apollo tomorrow and am so nervous. I did well on the NET test but am not sure how similar the two tests are. Can you explain what type of math problems and grammar questions were on the test? I just need to know what to focus on when studying.

Thank you so much for all your help.

Don't be nervous - trust me, if you did well on the net this will be a piece of cake. It's much easier. Google CPAT study and you'll find a link that you can look at practice questions, I think. At the info session they should have told you of a website for this.

I've been at Apollo for a month now and I love it!

Good luck - though I don't think you'll need it!

Thanks!!! I am so happy to finally find someone who has actually taken this test. Are there alot of math word problems? What is the grammer portion like?

I don't remember too much about it but I do remember that in the info session they said to be prepared to answer questions like, "A sweater costs $15 and it is on sale for 20% off. How much is the sweater." See what I mean? Simple. The grammar I don't remember except that it was very easy. If you want to feel more confident just glance through some sample questions on a CPAT website, but honestly, if you took the net recently you have nothing to worry about.

Thanks so much for all your help. Can I ask you one more question? I just wanted to know a little about how the acceptance process owrks. Once I have submitted my NET and Cpat scores, does the advisor call you and tell you that you have been selected...and then where do you go from there.

Again...thanks for helping :)

I am a 6th semester nursing student at Apollo, there are alot of negative things about Apollo and alot of positive things.

When you take and pass the tests the advisor will call you and tell you over the phone your scores and that you have been accepted.

The RN program isn't coming to the Mesa Campus. DeVry just bought Apollo and the rumor is that all the Apollo RN programs are going to be combined or shifted over to Chamberlain, which is DeVry's nursing program. But nothing is set yet!

While outside I heard the Devry head Rep talking to our Director about how begining in March all the new nursing students will be shifted over to Devry while the rest will continue at the Phx campus until graduation. Granted this is all from eavesdropping, oops.

There are going to be negatives and positives with any nursing program, regardless of the school. I am a student nurse at Apollo and it is a nursing program like any other nursing program.
