Hey guys!
I'm taking APHY 101 online this semester and I bought a used book. I was worried because, after speaking with the online bookstore, they informed me that it was a new book, 1st edition. However, I spoke with my teacher and she confirmed that the older, green, 7th edition would work just fine.
Also, I was worried about having to buy the Pearson code for access, but I received an email from my instructor on that, today. She said that we no longer have to have access because all the information is embedded into blackboard now. Woohoo!
I just wanted to share that with anyone else who is taking the class and may not have purchased the outrageously expensive $293.00 book. Also, the lab kit is now included with the book package or it can be bought separately for a much cheaper amount.
Hope this helps someone!
Tara
Hmm...so I am starting Week 2 in APHY 101 and will be working on Ch. 3 this week, also taking Exam 1 over Ch. 1-3.
I am a little confused though because the lab quizzes do not seem to pertain to anything in the lab activity. Was this the case in anyone else's 101 class online?
On the first two lab quizzes I got 20/20 and then this third one...well I got a 12/20:( The lab activity was a video about osmosis/dialysis but the lab quiz did not have one question about any of that! I mostly guessed on the quiz to be honest. I tried to read the information but I guess I need to go back and re-read!!
Emmi, no, the quizzes in 101 generally do not have anything to do with the labs. (The quizzes in online 102 DO have everything to do with the labs!) If your prof opens up the quizzes for you to review after the due date, then you might find that there are some questions you have the correct answer for but the answers were keyed incorrectly. Or, if there were fill in the blank questions, you might have an acceptable answer but the test will count anything that is not exactly what it has keyed as the answer, wrong. So look your quiz over carefully, and if your prof doesn't open them up, message your prof and ask him/her to manually look it over.
Emmi, usually the labs in my 101 class have maybe one question over the actual lab that we did, it's mostly over the chapter that we read. On that particular quiz, we had five questions and only one was on the video.
Good luck on the rest of your quizzes! I'm off to do self study quizzes, practice tests, and a lab on Chapter 8 in APHY. ;-)
I'm sorry to hear that, Emmi. Was it a non proctored test?
I've changed my schedule again and I plan to take APHY102 f2f and I'm going to go ahead and retake 101 online with the same instructor next semester. I'm carrying a B at the moment, barely, so hopefully next semester I will be better prepared.
You can always bring it back up! Do well on your quizzes, your DB's, the midterm, and final. You can do it!
BTW...why is all of my stuff in italics? I'm using the quick reply.
lol...have no idea why your post was in italics, maybe it was selected mistakenly.
Anyway, yes that darn test was non proctored...lol and I still got an 84, although the instructor has not graded yet so maybe (fingers crossed) it will be adjusted?!
I promise though I am not getting any of this. I have almost just given up because I am so lost. Most subjects come easy to me but I think I psyched myself out reading about how hard the class was and the failure rate etc. So now I am just way too intimidated and I wish I would have taken it f2f instead.
Looks like I may be rearranging my schedule for next semester as well!
I know exactly what you mean! Most subjects come easily to me also and it frustrates me to no end that this one doesn't! I don't understand why it's so hard for me. I'm hanging on by a thread, but I'll be lucky to get a B, let me tell you!
I don't know how you guys who have made A's in this online have done it!
A moderator on the Ivy Tech Community College Discussion Board posted this in regards to being able to retake classes to earn a higher grade:
"If you are referring to an APHY class, we are currently reviewing the policy. Previously, students were allowed to retake the APHY course as many times as possible. This has presented a problem with students taking this course multiple times without restriction. We are now in the midst of reviewing this policy to make the process fair for all students."
I just responded to that Emmi. She is full of it! It clearly states that you can only retake two times until you need permission from the department chair! Its definitely not going to be fair to those of us who need to retake next semester to get in, in the fall start. If I have to be stuck with my B then I will be screwed. This isn't fair. I hope that they think this through and allow students' opinions on it.

LMBO Tara and CSAB!! Brownies sound soo good and I know I'm going to the grocery store just to buy them today! Thanks:)
CSAB- My instructor said that everything from Course Compass will be in these self study quizzes and practice tests and each session has a folder filled with those chapter games and activities.
Chapter 1 had a matching quiz, T/F quiz, multiple choice quiz, and a chapter practice test, then the actual Lab quiz.
