APHY 101 online - Ivy Tech

Published

Hey guys!

I'm taking APHY 101 online this semester and I bought a used book. I was worried because, after speaking with the online bookstore, they informed me that it was a new book, 1st edition. However, I spoke with my teacher and she confirmed that the older, green, 7th edition would work just fine.

Also, I was worried about having to buy the Pearson code for access, but I received an email from my instructor on that, today. She said that we no longer have to have access because all the information is embedded into blackboard now. Woohoo!

I just wanted to share that with anyone else who is taking the class and may not have purchased the outrageously expensive $293.00 book. Also, the lab kit is now included with the book package or it can be bought separately for a much cheaper amount.

Hope this helps someone!

Tara

Thanks Tara! I just finished session 1 tonight and I feel so overwhelmed already! It may be due to the fact that this class is SO important and the talk about the failure rate etc...

I know! It's really overwhelming! I feel for you that you are taking it for only 8 weeks! Has it started already? Will you be doing chapters 1&2 the first week?

Yes it started on the 20th and chapters 1&2 are due the 26th. There is so much to learn and read! I took 5 pages of notes front and back just on the 1st chapter! It also seems like so much to do but I guess that is because of the self study quizzes and tests. So I just did 5 quizzes/tests and only 1 counted towards my grade:) This set up is a lot different from the other courses I've taken online.

Oh yeah. I know for my class there are three self study quizzes, a practice quiz, and a lab quiz for each chapter, so doing two chapters a week would be really difficult! I do feel for you. What other classes are you taking? Will you be able to give most of your attention to aphy?

I am taking Med. Term(16 weeks-online), which really isn't too bad and since I don't HAVE to get an A in that one I'm not going to stress it too bad. I'm also taking ENGL 111(16 weeks-on campus), which is really hard for me because I hate writing papers and am really bad at it. So I will really need to divide my time between ENGL 111 and APHY 101!

I just finished up IVYT105, PSYC 101, and MATH 050-all of these were 8 weeks online.

It's good that you only have a couple of other classes to worry about. I had Med Term last semester for 8 weeks and it was pretty easy. I'm sure you will do great in APHY. Just study your butt off!

Do you work?

:-D

I hope so! I am expecting a baby in December though...so I am going to try to work ahead as much as possible!

Oh wow! I remember you writing about that! My memory is shot, I'm telling you! Congratulations! Are you having a boy or a girl? How many other kids do you have, if any?

Okay, here are the workbook pages for chapters 3&4 in the Marieb book (its just chapter 3 in this one) on cells and tissue. It's got a lot of really great pictures, etc. I will make sure and upload the answers when I get to it.

I'm done for the night, it's almost 3am!

Thank you for the congrats! I am having a boy and I have a soon to be 4 year old little girl. Do you have children?

Thanks again for these workbook chapters! They will definitely be helpful!!

I have four! LOL. Three girls (13, 11, and 7) and one baby boy (1). They are so amazing and very helpful while I'm doing schoolwork...except for the baby. ;-) I bet you are so excited. Boys are very different from girls. It was a definite shock to see how different they are. It's apparent pretty much as soon as they start getting their personality going. It's awesome.

You're welcome for the pages! I hope to have some more up tomorrow. I'm hungry and tired and should be sleeping, but I keep thinking about brownies. I've already made one batch and I'm thinking about making another, so I should probably go to bed!

Okay sorry but I just had to laugh at Tara thinking about making a batch of brownies at 4am!!! Are you nuts? LOL No I know you're not nuts, just a student studying to get an A in a pre-req!

Does your practice stuff for 101 include memory games, crossword puzzles, and art labeling activities? Just curious as to how they changed it now that you don't have to access Course Compass anymore. When I took it there were an Art Labeling quiz, two Multiple Choice quizzes (level 1 and Level 2), a Matching quiz, and a T/F quiz.
