I just scored an interview at Orange Park Medical Center for the ED. I was wondering if anyone here worked there, and if so, if anyone had any tips for the interview or the facility in general.
Thanks!
What kind of worthwhile job can you get at a hospital if you aren't licensed yet???
Fellow students of mine were Unit Clerks, Telemetry Techs, and ER registration clerks. All were great jobs with decent pay ($14+/hr in central Florida) and give awesome experience. My friend the Tele tech aced through ECG readings exams and cardiac stuff, and right out of school got a job in the CVICU where he worked. The position normally requires +2yr. experience, but he was a shoe-in because of his experience.
Definitely look into it. I wish I was able to when I was in school.
Wow, that $3000 thing is crazy. I've never heard of any hospital having that kind of setup. I could see if it was a cash bonus that had to be repaid, but not just straight from the nurse's pocket. Ouch.Ypoons: If you don't mind me asking, as an employee, do you know what they pay new grads? People on here say $21-$23.
OPMC starts nurses out $24-$26/hr days. It's a nice place to work.
I work at OPMC. I don't know where some people are getting their information on a 2 year $3000 payback commitment. There is NO SUCH THING as a $3000 reimbursement on a 2 year commitment unless you received the $3000 as a sign on bonus.
You will have to reimburse OPMC if you have not fullfilled a 12 month tuition reimbursement commitment.
Don't take my word or your friend's word on this. This just causes bad information to get out there and many blurt out stupid comments on bad information. Just call the OPMC HRO.

I actually did finally call the other day. And it has been two friends that told me this and one more who is about to start on the floor as well. This is what the person I (finally!) got on the phone said: New grads have to sign a contract stating they will be working for OPMC for two years to cover the cost of them having to train and orient them to the hospital, floor, and nursing. While two of them are ADN nurses who might need the tuition reimbursement to get their BSN, one of them is a BSN nurse who does not need it. I am not condoning the hospital at all. Just stating what has been told to me.
Hi, The shift differentials are $2.75, $3.50, and $2.00 weekends. I do not know about loan reimbursement, but they do have reimbursement for classes upon completion with a set yearly max. I am not sure what the yearly max is, but it is competetive. You have to make an A or B in the course, but nursing schools generally require that anyway. Good luck!
I am just curious, the differentials are 2.75, 3.50 and 2.00 weekends. That means 2.00 per hour on the weekend, but what is 2.75 and 3.50? I know one of those is night shift diff, but which one? And what is the other number?
I'm going through the interview process now and I am just trying to determine what I can expect to earn for the night shift job I am seeking. Thanks!
Typically when there are two numbers for night shifts diffs it's in reference to 3-11 and 11-7. 7a-3p is base, 3p-11p is the first diff, 11p-7a is the second diff. I also heard their weekend diff is $4 now, and full-time employees can sign up for more shifts and get overtime plus $10/hr. Sounds pretty sweet.

Thanks for that info. I just got an offer from the hospital in Palatka, they offer new nurses with no experience 21.00/hr. My offer is for days so diffs were not discussed. I had a 3rd interview with OP and I am waiting to hear from them. If OP makes an offer I will accept it no matter what it is, but I am very anxious to hear about money! I am happy to hear that the weekend diff may have increased. While I was doing clinicals there a nurse told me about the 10.00 overtime diff. Seems almost too good to be true! And they schedule their own OT! How awesome is that?
Well, I might be able to give up my day job after all! :)LOL! (I currently have a job wherein I have 18 yrs exp....and earn $39/hr. I want to nurse.....but I am paying off debt so that I can afford it!)
Two classmates just got offers from WelcomeHome Care, 35 visits per week at a minimum of 32.00 per visit. That is a basic visit. You get more for each 1/2 hour, starting IVs, new admits, etc. You might get close to your 39.00/hr with something like that!
Sorry but I don't have anything positive to say about OPMC, I worked there on/off since 1994, (only because of driving distance) I guess they are trying to make changes, but my last experience there in 2009 was horrible and I will never go back there. Would rather drive longer then deal with that place again.
Not going to post specifics d/t being flamed.

I hope it is like that! =) That would be good news for those who have experience. I would hate to be valuable and have to be stuck somewhere. Did you interview yet?
