Anyone work at Orange Park Medical Center?

U.S.A. Florida

I just scored an interview at Orange Park Medical Center for the ED. I was wondering if anyone here worked there, and if so, if anyone had any tips for the interview or the facility in general.

Thanks!

I know they partnered with UNF so you can go get your BSN. And I think they pay for that. Best part about that is UNF comes to OPMC one day a week and I think the rest is online. But I think you have to work their 6 months first.

And that contract is so crazy. If you leave, you have to pay them $3000.

hmm....That UNF thing sounds interesting.

As for that contract, I'm okay with the prospect of a $3000 payback if they GIVE $3000 as a sign-on bonus. Otherwise, that's crazy.

I work at OPMC and have been there for 12 years. I am RN-BSN. It is a wonderful hospital.

As far as tuition reimbursement goes, you get 100% back each semester after you turn in your passing grades. You sign a contract when you apply for tuition reimbursement and you agree to stay employed there for 12 months after your last tuition reimbursement pay.

There is no contract to sign just to be employed there. Only if you want tuition reimbursement.

It makes sense, why would they want to pay for your classes if you are leaving and taking all that new found knowledge to another facility?

I think you will find it a very nice hospital to work at.

Hope this helps.

My friend is already an RN-BSN. She had to sign a a 2 yr contract. They are not giving her any tuition reimbursement, seeing as she does not need it.

I am confused, a 2 yr contract for what?

Is it a hire-on contract that she signed when she got hired on there, for a hire-on bonus?

Just wondering.

Also, if she takes any college classes, she can get tuition reimbursement for those if they pertain to her field of work.

I am pretty sure she is done with school for at least a few years. She did not get a bonus. But she does have to pay $3000 if she chooses to quit before the 2 yrs is up.

Wow!! I have not heard of that at our hospital. I will ask a nurse I know that was hired on about 6 months ago find out more details.

Thanks for the info, I learn something new each day.

Wow, that $3000 thing is crazy. I've never heard of any hospital having that kind of setup. I could see if it was a cash bonus that had to be repaid, but not just straight from the nurse's pocket. Ouch.

Ypoons: If you don't mind me asking, as an employee, do you know what they pay new grads? People on here say $21-$23.

I really don't have a clue. I guess you can ask somebody in HR there. They would probably give you a range.

You are welcome. =) I could be wrong about the situation but I am pretty sure she said Orange Park was giving her nothing but a job.

I've taken many jobs where I have had to sign commitment contracts.....one was for relocation....they paid $20K to relocate me. Even with THAT amount of money, the contract was for 1 year. That makes sense. But to sign a commitment contract in exchange for nothing? Don't think so! Here they have given you nothing....and if THEY terminate you, you still have to pay. That is SO wrong!

As far as I have heard, OP is the only local hospital with a GN program still hiring. I guess they are preying on desperate new grads.

They are actually no hiring new grads, unless you have some kind of contact. Best suggestion I can give you is you get a job while in nursing school at the hospital you want to work at. These are the only people who have jobs right now from my class.
