Hey Everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone on the waiting list for San Diego City College has gotten a letter of acceptance for Fall 2010. I'm in the 100's on the waiting list, so I'm getting pretty close, but since they're accepting 50% from the waiting list and 50% from the point system, it might take me a while longer to get accepted . The admin at the nursing office told me that acceptance letters for those on the waiting list should be sent out towards the end of March, so I was just wondering if anyone has received a letter of acceptance or alternate? If so, what number were you on the waiting list??
Just being curious!
luv2bake thank you for your response!
For NE 140 they require Publication manual of the american Psychological Association, Guidelines for Individualizing Client Care Across the Life Span, Javis Physical examination and Health Assessment, Kee- Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications, Lewis- Medical-Surgical Nursing, Potter and Perry- Fundamentals of Nursing, Mosby's Nursing video skills, Physical Examination and Health Assessment Online Video Series.
Which Nursing Drug Guide of choice would you recommend?
NE 141
Kee Pharmacology- a nursing process approach
NE 142
Intravenous Medications by Gahart
Thank you for your help, and please, if you have any advice to share with us, feel free. What made your life easier during the first year of the program, how often did you have tests, how clear are the explanations in class? Please write everything you found helpful, share your experience.
Hello Lexus02 & new first year RN students,
As far as books,
American psychological association book-I did not use. They have you get it to help you write your APA papers. It didn't help me. I just went to the English center at school.
Guidelines for Individualizing Care Across the Lifespan-this is your care plan book and yes, I used it quite a bit.
Jarvis-yes, I used this book a lot as well. It is great for learning assessments.
Kee laboratory and diagnostic- which addition are they suggesting? I didn't find mine helpful.
Lewis-great book. You will definately need it. Its huge so don't be scared when you see it.
Potter & Perry- great book as well. You will need it definately.
Both video series are good resources
Kee Pharmacology-helped a lot with pharm
Intravenous Medications- never purchased it so I don't know
Drug Books- I have a Mosby drug guide and I am happy with it
That is the info I have on books for now. I will write more later on what I can share about the program. I am very tired now. I just wanted to let you know about the books asap because I am sure some of you are trying to figure out which to buy. Hopefully this helps. I think I spent over $600. At least the program itself is not too expensive. Okdoky, too be continued.
Thank you very much, it was a very helpful response, I can't thank you enough for the time you took to share with us. I just do not want to buy the books that are on the list but that I will never end up opening, so your experience gave me some guidance as what to purchase. It is true that even though books are quite expensive, at least tuition is cheap. Thanks a lot, and hope to see your in August. And yes, please, if you have some time, share about your concerns during the 1 year of program, the studying techniques that you found helpful, how much time approximately you invested in studying daily, how often did you have tests, and some useful tips for clinicals. As well as, what white shoes would you recommend, because after books shoes are my second concern. Have a great rest of summer!
Hey guys!
Don't even worry about the critical thinking exam. It is just an assessment exam to see where you are at starting nursing school. I was concerned as well but found out I had nothing to worry about. It doesn't affect anyone being able to start. It is part of the ati testing program which you will learn more about soon. ATIs are the exams you will take throughout nursing school to help you prepare for the nclex. So please, don't lose sleep over it! Just do the best you can and enjoy the rest of Jump Start. :) I found Jump Start to be very beneficial. Just keep the questions coming. I am still planning to post some tips on everything that helped me my first year. Hopefully I will be able to tomorrow. Ok, just let me know if you guys have more questions!

Rayni22,
Thanks for the info. I'm going there next week for my 2nd Hep B and a varicella titer. :)
My understanding is that the Jump Start is two days of workshops to prepare us for the program. I know there is a math workshop for certain, but I'm not sure about the others.
