Anyone Up For Random FACT THROWING??

Let's have some fun learning. Each person should throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember" before taking your finals, HESI, NCLEX, etc. Nursing Students NCLEX Article

Updated:

OK I know this sounds stupid but I have a friend that gets really freaked out before big tests like finals, HESI, NCLEX, and usually we get together and a few days before I start throwing out random facts at her. On 2 different tests she said the only way she got several questions was from the random facts that I threw at her that she never would have thought of!

SOOOOO..... I thought that if yall wanted to do this we could get a thread going and try to throw out 5 random facts or "things to remember". NCLEX is coming and the more I try to review content the more I realize that I have forgotten so......here are my 5 random facts for ya:

OH and BTW these came from rationales in Kaplan or Saunders no made up stuff:

1️⃣ A kid with Hepatitis A can return to school 1 week within the onset of jaundice.

2️⃣ After a patient has dialysis they may have a slight fever...this is normal due to the fact that the dialysis solution is warmed by the machine.

3️⃣ Hyperkalemia presents on an EKG as tall peaked T-waves

4️⃣ The antidote for Mag Sulfate toxicity is ---Calcium Gluconate

5️⃣ Impetigo is a CONTAGEOUS skin disorder and the person needs to wash ALL linens and dishes seperate from the family. They also need to wash their hands frequently and avoid contact.

Oh, ohh, one more...

? Vasopressin is also known as antidiuretic hormone

OK your turn....

Prado, please send me the fact file. my email is [email protected]. Thank you!

thank you.....thank you....thank you

this was perfect and totally helped. i see exactly what i did wrong and why it was incorrect. it was the very last step that through me for a loop.

for those of you who have trouble with mcg/kg/min problems.

try this solution.

exp: 7mg of dopamine in 500ml in ns ; pt is 110lbs

first convert 110lbsto kg =110lbs/2.2 kg=50kg

then change 7 mg to mcg =7000 mcg

now plug in the numbers. 7000* 50kg*60mins

------------------

500ml

answer is 16.8 mcg/kg/min

i want to quote this one, correct me if im wrong....

in order to get 16.8 in this equation is: 7000 mcg / 50 kg = 140 mcg/kg * 60 mins = 8400 mcg/kg/min (the solving should stop here because this is what the question is looking for, right? [mcg/kg/min])

but then i saw some replies to this post that they still divide 8400 mcg/kg/min by 500 ml (ns solution) = 16.8 mcg/kg/min/ml ????(what for???) ---- isn't this a bit confusing?....coz if you take note the measurements "mcg,kg,min,ml" the final answer shouldn't be 16.8...

then i try solving this problem in my own way.....still correct me if im wrong...

7mg = 7000 mcg

110 lb. = 50 kg

1 hr. = 60 mins.

thus, 7000 mcg / 50 kg = 140 mcg/kg ---- then we're now looking for how much mcg/kg we need "per" minute, right? so this is what i did:

for me, when i saw the word "per" it means "to divide"

since there is 6o minutes in an hour ------ 140 mcg/kg divided by 60 min. = 2.33 mcg/kg/min

to check if my answer is right, i did this: 2.33 * 60 = 139.8 rounding it off to the nearest whole number it would be 140.

[color=cyan]this is just what i thought i'm not claiming i'm right....cause it's been confusing me,just sharing...thanks :redbeathe

please help me solve this..i tried but i can't figure it out

physician's order: add 60 meq kcl to 1000 ml d5/w and infuse at a rate of 2.5 meq/hr.

available: kcl 40 meq=20 ml

the infusion set has a drop factor of 60

1. how much kcl should be added to the iv?

2. how many ml/hr should the patient receive?

3. how many gtts/min need to infuse to deliver the required amount of drug per hour?

i still got the same answers as the other readers here but, it's quite differ in the process of solving it, try to look to what i did if which is easier for you guys to remember and understand:

1. dosage prescribed x q ( quantity) = x

stock available

----- 60 meq x 20 ml = 30 ml

30 meq

2. to get the number of hours i did this: 60 meq = 24 hrs.

2.5 meq/hr

------ i cancelled out the "meq"

60 meq = prescribed amount of kcl to add in the solution

2.5 meq/ hour = prescribed rate

then, 1000 ml (solution) = 41.67 or 42 ml/hr

24 hours

3. to get the gtts/min, i did this: 1000 ml x 60 gtts/ml = 41.67 or 42 gtts/min

1440 min

24 hours = 1440 minutes

drop factor = 60 gtts/ml

solution = 1000 ml

i hope this will help anyone...:lol2:

just got my results. I'm a nurse. YAYAYAYAYYAYA.

congrats on passing!!!:yeah:

i just like to know if you dont mind, is this the first time you take the nclex-rn exam.... because i'll be taking my 2nd try at the end of the month...can you tell me what type of questions they give you.... honestly im really really nervous right now, i dont know if all the things i studied is good enough or if i know is enough...thanks

i just rescheduled my exam, i think im not that prepared yet so...focus,focus...need more knowledge and infos., please include me in your prayers....i'm going to include all of you in mine...im doing this to pass my exams this 2nd time...:crying2::crying2::crying2:

I just found out I passed the NCLEX-RN first take with 75 questions. I give this credit to Allnurses, specially "Fact throwing". It is really really really helpful. Now I start my next step, hunting job.

ohhhh mine everyone I took my Nclex Rn today . Got shot off at 75 :w00t:I nearly passed out. I cried home. I got so much sata, just one math which made me go crazy bc I was so gud at it. I went home waited till the result said successfully delivered and did the pearson trick and got the good pop up- our record indicates that you have recently scheduled this exam please contact your board for further assistance another registration can not be made at this time . ohh mine and waiting for the quick result on friday I will let everyone know because am still worried .
