Anyone from The Woodlands?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I'm a peds RN in Los Angeles, hoping against all hope that the housing market crashes in Southern California so I can afford a home. But, I seriously doubt that will happen, so I've been thinking about moving to Texas. I have family in Dallas, which I like alright, but I've been reading about The Woodlands, Texas and it seems like it's a nice community and close enough to Houston to give this city girl some diversion and a living wage.

What information can you give me regarding places to live, work, and have an interesting life? Mind you, I'm waaay over the partying scene, so that's not my idea of fun. I'd love to hear opinions on the community, hospitals and their atmospheres, typical wages etc.

If anyone can recommend a great place to live that offers affordable home ownership to a single gal, I'd love to hear that as well!!!

Wow, I looked at the woodlands site. Homes seem very affordable. I may want to look into this when I finish school as I want to relo back to a warm climate!

Hey, wanna be neighbors? Seriously, doesn't ANYONE live there? Or are y'all keeping it your little secret? ;)

It is not just warm there. Add 99 percent humidity to that warmth.

yes I live near by. And It is a great community! There are several hospitals in the surrounding area! St. Lukes, memorial the woodlands, Conroe hospital, Tomball hospital, northwest. And then there is medical center which isnt to far. As for the salary im not sure im in nursing school right now. Im sure it is not as much as california, but the housing is so much cheaper. The woodlands though is a pretty expensive place to live. But there are other areas that are close and just as nice for a little less. I live in spring which is about 5min away. If you want to have an idea of the housing market try this web site http://www.har.com you can enter were you want to live and your price range and it will give you a list of homes for sale. it will show you what the home looks like etc. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I live in Tomball, which is right by The Woodlands, and so far I have liked it pretty well. We actually go to The Woodlands to eat out and stuff sometimes b/c there is a lot more to do their than in Tomball. We moved here about six months ago and the heat/humidity is a killer. It seriously fills like you are living in a sauna. Don't plan on spending much time outdoors in the summer... unless it is in the pool.

It will also take you a while to commute to downtown Houston from The Woodlands if you want to work there. However, there are a couple of hospitals in the woodlands that might be decent to work at. I am too new to the area to really know yet. Wouldn't recommend Tomball Regional necessarily... part of the reason I found these message boards was to try to get some info on some other area hospitals.

College Station is a nice area. A little more north and west than the woodlands, which is basically a suburb of Houston.

College Station is 1.5 hrs from H-town and Austin; 3 hrs from San Anton and Dallas.

Great place to raise kids.

24 hr stores, close to big cities, nice parks, but yet, more quiet than the hustle/bustle.

Competitive hospitals/salaries.

No crazy driving/highways, like SoCal . . . AND Houston.

My 1300 sq ft 3 bedroom house on a cul de sac opposite a park in a quiet neighborhood: $97,000.

i live in the med center in houston, but i've been through the woodlands a lot. i personally love the area. it's very nice and it's got a lot to do, plus it's not far from houston. i don't know anything about hospitals there, though.

Hi,

Anyone willing to chime in about utilities (water, gas, electric, trash), property taxes and homeowner's insurance. I love where I live now, I mean I hate where I live now, I mean..........:chair: We almost moved to the Ft. Worth area and it or Houston is still my backup plan if things don't work out here. Thanks everyone!

it all depends on were you decide to live every area is different. I would get on har.com and mess around on it. It will give you a better idea .. If you cant find it that way it is houston area realtors.com Houston is very large and has a lot of suburbs and every area is different even if it is 5minutes away. but that website should be able to help you it has a lot of info.
