I'm thinking about taking the 30 unit option. Seems like every time I finish a class with the hopes of getting into the program they change the requirements. First I had to take another math class then they added a pharm class. While doing all that my sciences expired so now I would have to retake them.

Does anyone have any real experience in this area? I've done the research and don't plan on moving out of state. I figure the way things are going it would take me at least another few years to actually get into the program if I retake all my sciences.

please respond if you've actually taken this route. I'd love to hear your experience.

I"m also thinking of doing the 30 unit option...

What is this 30 unit option you are talking about? I am also an LVN trying to get into a transition, my sciences are past the 5 yr mark now and don't know if I should retake them or what. So discouraged trying to get in somewhere.

This is a CA specific program not available in/not recognized by other states

I know NO ONE who has taken the 30 unit option route. I, first inquired about the 30 unit option in 1999 with the LA County RN Program and was discouraged from this "option". I was told that I would not be able to pursue a degree if I just got the certificate.

The next time I asked about the 30 unit option was at LA Harbor College in 2010 and was advised against this option and I was given the same reason.

Most recently, now in August 2017, after researching EVERY California Community College ADN program listed California Board of Registered nursing site, each program that offers the 30 unit option has the same disclaimer "APPLICANTS ARE ADMITTED AS SPACE IS AVAILABLE."

I honestly believe that I was discouraged from applying because there is NO space available. I advise you to ask about this disclaimer, and ask "How many LVN have successfully been offered a SPACE in the program in the last year or in the past 10 years.

Full disclosure, my fellow LVN colleagues, I got my LVN license in 1998 and I don't know of anyone that has ever completed the 30 unit option.

GOOD LUCK to all my fellow LVNs who are pursuing the RN. I'm attempting every option and am feeling highly discouraged because I just received (Summer 2017) a denial letter from a community college in the Bay Area (Northern California) and I have an A average in all my pre-requisites (3.5 GPA) and I well exceeded the minimum requirement on the TEAS test (I've only taken TEAS this one time).
