Anyone taken the AANP in 2017?!

Published

Ugh. You guys, I have failed the AANP test TWICE by 7 points each time. This has got to be by like 1 or 2 questions. I took it first in September last year, then again in December. I'm so over it already. I think I'm just freaking myself out about it and overanalyzing things.

SO has anyone taken the test now that it's 2017? Does the test content change each year? Any advice for me? TIA!!

Hi! I had been reading these boards for weeks and told myself that I would post when I passed the exam. Today I passed!!!

Here are some of the things I did...

1. Started studying early little by little

I started studying end of March; I read Leik every night for about 15 minutes (pretty slow progress right?!) and tried to do 25 practice questions almost every day. I was going at a snail's pace but was convinced that small pieces of information over a long period of time would easily become a part of my long-term memory with minimal effort! By graduation (June 11) I had finished reading Leik and had completed all of her practice questions in the back of the book, and was scoring in the 80s and 90s. But I was not convinced that I was ready.

2. Took a 10 day breather post-grad

I graduated June 11 then went to Japan for 10 days to unwind and take a break from anything that required thinking :) When I got back, I was totally recharged and ready to study

3. APEA/Amelie Hollier Live Review Course

This course was extremely helpful. Amelie is able to explain very complex concepts in a simple "for dummies" way, and she's hilarious! This course cleaned up my understanding of respiratory disorders, heart murmurs, hematology, and peds/growth & development. I felt energized and motivated--I had newfound momentum and was ready to hit the books by the 3rd day of the course. I purchased her book of practice questions as well as 2 predictor exams.

4. 3.5 weeks of intense studying -- 8 hours per day

After APEA review course I started to read Leik again from the very beginning--painful but effective. I also reread Amelie's spiral bound study notebook (comes with the course) as well, and completely all of the questions in her APEA practice question book. I took 2 APEA predictor exams 1.5 weeks apart and got 84% on both. Then I redid ALLLLL of Leik's practice questions -- all 635!

I probably over studied, but I wanted to be 100% confident that I would pass. I think Leik and APEA review course helped immensely, and reading the content front to back was a winner for me. I did about 2000 practice questions total. It takes a lot of patience but it is doable--you got this!

If you took Hollier's review course, reach out to her. She made it a point to tell us in the review I took from her, that if someone failed, to contact her and she would personally make a remediation plan and study plan.

Hello there, I will be taking the AANP test for the second time next week. I tested in January after a live review and failed. I thought I knew the material and studied really hard but came up short. I pray that Im successful this time. This is starting to bring me down. I will go over some of you topics, Thanks and wish me luck.

Good luck!!!.. Please let us know how it goes, I will be taking my exam for the 2nd time prbly in late September, been studying more in depth now so hope I get it this time!... Good luck!

Hello All. I took my AANP exam for the first time and I failed. I just started reading comments from the ones who took it and passed. I really appreciate any advise, tips, and study habits that you can share with me. I have job offers but hesitant to take them until I pass the exam. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I took Hollier live review before the beginning of the semester, also my NP program required us to do the online Barkley review, which also came with the CDs and books. Also I took 3 predictor exams from APEA and the AANP practice test the week before I took AANP. I feel like the APEA exams and AANP practice Test were most helpful. Reading the rationales and driving them out for me was most helpful. I also listed to my weaker areas again with the Barkley review Modules and CDs. Good luck!

I took the test 2 weeks ago and passed. I highly recommend the LEIK book and Hollier review. I answered a lot of practice questions from APEA and took 5 exam edge practice tests. Any questions please ask.

Thanks so much

letting me know how to master FNP exam

Does anyone have the Hollier recordings that I can buy/take off your hands? I took her live review course, but now as I'm going through the review book/syllabus, I find I've forgotten a lot of what she said and the book by itself is just not enough detail.

TIA

Hi Kayleeshae, Im taking my boards in 9 days, I did Hollier review and read LEIK book. Im worried about the assessment question because I'm scoring from the 60's to 70's on the APEA question for assessment

any tips ?

I took the AANP FNP certification exam on 1/18/2018 and passed. I used the Leik and Fitzgerald books and those were the only resources that I needed. I took a 150 question APEA practice test and an AANP practice test that I found to be very helpful, particularly the APEA one because you get detailed rationales for the questions you missed. I thought the APEA practice questions were far more difficult than the real board exam. As for my resources, Leik really lasers in on what you need to know to be successful. Leik is very cut and dry and she gives great exam tips and mnemonics and tricks to help you organize information in a concise manner. Fitzgerald goes way down the rabbit hole, but it really is an excellent resource. In my opinion, spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a review course is a total waste of money. The test really is straight forward, the questions are not designed to trick you, and if you score 70% and up on practice exams, you are going to be successful. I felt reasonably confident going in to the exam and repeatedly told myself "you are passing this exam", and although that seems silly, it worked.

Please do not take offense to this question but as I am a semester away from graduation I'm just curious to know. I have already studied leik, hollier, barkley, fitzgerald etc. If all the fnp needs to pass our certification test is Leik to be able to practice medicine, does that scare you? It scares me. The leik book is extremely superficial. The questions any medical professional could answer. For example, my brother in pharmacy school is able to get well over 70% of the Leik questions correct. But we FNP's could not pass the pharmacology tests they take. I'm just confused.
