Anyone taken the AANP in 2017?!

Published

Ugh. You guys, I have failed the AANP test TWICE by 7 points each time. This has got to be by like 1 or 2 questions. I took it first in September last year, then again in December. I'm so over it already. I think I'm just freaking myself out about it and overanalyzing things.

SO has anyone taken the test now that it's 2017? Does the test content change each year? Any advice for me? TIA!!

which quizlet did you review?

Hi guys!Sooo...I took the AANP exam today my first time, and i failed it as per the preliminary report ugh. Half of the questions I honestly did not know and if i did I was always between two answers. There were a lot of derm questions i feel. Such as squamous cell, basal cell, actinic keratosis etc. I felt confident going in but I feel the stuff i knew wasn't even asked! grrrr....

I got a lot of elderly patient questions as well. These are some of the topics I can remember that were on the exam, hope this helps, PTSD, hyper and hypothyroidism, one xray, otitis externa, shingles, hepatitis, CD4 count, ADHD, ACEs, ARBs, psoriasis, snuff test, weber test, scarlet fever, dig toxicity, post menopausal bleeding, rocky mountain spotted fever, lyme disease, BPH meds, gono, nystagmus,PCOS....IDA, anterior drawer test, SSRIs, hormone replacement therapy, mitral regurg.,Rubella titer, erysipelas... I will post more as my brain comes to life again!!! lol

Hello! Has anyone taken AANP for the SECOND time in 2017? I failed the first time and have been studying Fitzgerald, APEA and the liek book. Looking for any advice about questions on the second test. I believe the first tests are all the same so I'm assuming the second test is as well? Suggestions welcome!

This was very helpful. I hope you can post more messages. If possible can you send your email address? I would like to ask more questions about the exam. Thanks I appreciate it.

Hi, What other questions did you have? I'll gladly try to help, and hope to help others looking to pass the exam as well...Thanks!

To clarify aren't all of those topics you posted common primary care topics that should have been addressed over and over in your schooling. While I have not finished my schooling I am very close and know we have covered all of those topics and many many more in great detail. I don't understand.

Hi, and as you mentioned they were "addressed" at some point, vaguely, but not in depth. My FNP program was all online, and not very demanding, only time consuming but not difficult. In one of your old posts I saw you mentioned something about others learning more during the time they studied for the exam than the actual FNP program, you can add me to that list!Lol..I've honestly learned way more preparing for the exam than I did the entire program, sad but true, and also learned more during my clinical experience and just being a nurse. One thing that we didn't do during school was actually prepare for boards. I maybe took one practice exam that was required and that was it.

At the end of the day, studying and reading more in depth on these topics/subjects while In school and prepping for the exam, was my responsibility and I failed to do so at the time (as it wasn't required/demanded). I did get all As in my courses, but I would do what was needed and that was enough. So I do heavily suggest for those that are on the same boat, or if you think you are, study and read, read , read while in school and if you have time prep for the boards as well!!!

Hi everyone,

So I passed boards today and I promised myself that I would come back on here and leave a comment. It was my second time taking the AANP. First thing I want to say to all of you who are studying is that it is possible to pass. The first time I took it I only used one review course and one review book. That was 2 months ago. So the second time I took a different approach. I started from scratch and did things differently. I like you read these forms hoping and looking for some sort of direction on how to study and I realize that my FNP program was not that strong and that every single review had its positive points and his negative points. So what Barkley might have covered in great depth, Hollier barely touchs on. The first thing I did was I listened to Berkeley's horses and I took notes on the different systems. Then I listen to Hollyer and I made my own notes. And next thing I did was I read the Leik book. And then created my own study guide for each system using all three different sources so that I could just study from one source. It may seem time-consuming but trust me the AAA and P exam uses all the hallmarks that are described in all the different resources and it was well worth it. I also went through Leik's questions and made notes just from the rationales. The first time I made the mistake of wasting a couple hundred dollars and practice questions which to be honest is pointless because the matter how many questions are used to practice the only good thing that comes out of it is learning how to decipher the question. But there are no shortcuts to hard-core studying. So with my new study guide that I created I would study study study and talk to myself in the mirror about different disease processes to cause myself and how much I knew. I also then I would go on YouTube and use Canada Q bank videos to obtain a better understanding of the pathophysiology. The videos are wonderful and exactly what we are looking for. I did not buy any questions this time, I just looked at the sample questions in the AANP handbook and the sample questions from Nursingcredential.org. I got through the 150 questions so quickly and went over them two more times within 2 1/2 hours. It was a great feeling knowing that I passed before even see my results. The best advice I can give you is understand the pathophysiology of each Disease because it helps to eliminate all the wrong answers when you are unsure of the correct answer.

Hi

Did you pass FNP exam? I'm in the same boat as you took the exam twice and didn't pass this year. I have taking the Barkley and APEA review class.

Has anyone use Board-vital Question bank?

Help

Hi and congratulations!!! I am hoping to take my exam again in the next month to 2 months. I agree with you, I too, started doing questions to early into my studying and they do help but not entirely, this is why i believe I failed my first exam. No matter how many ???s you do they wont help unless you get the exact same question on the exam and or actually understand the disease and or topic in depth. My mistake!

Was the second exam similar to the first or very different?

thanks!

I also took Hollier and have done the APEA questions and still failed. I did read Leik as well. I'm baffled. And totally disappointed.
