Anyone take a part time LPN program?

Published

I just wanted to see if you were able to "keep up" with all of the information better by taking the LPN program part time (over 2 years instead of 1)? I have small children, so I enrolled in this type of program. Anyone with experience in the PT programs? Any thoughts at all regarding them?

I took the program FT and I did not have kids when I went to LPN school and i still felt I did not have time for anything. I suggest you take the program part time.

I have been going for my LPN by distance education, part-time. Some semesters I only take 9 credits. I work full time and it has worked very well for me. I start my clinicals this september. When I graduate next May I will have my AAS degree in practical nursing. Part-time worked perfect for me. Dont think I could have done it full-time and work too. I live in North Dakota and they have a wonderful program here. I would reccommend doing it part-time. You will be busy, but you will have some time for your family:)

Im getting ready to graduate in a couple of weeks, and originally I had enrolled in the part time program, however I was offered a spot in the full time program and Im glad that I took it. As far as Im concerned, I would rather just get it over with in a year rather than dragging it out longer. Im telling you, we are down to 12 school days left and Im running on empty. If I still had another 6 months to go I dont know if I could do it! To me, it is going to take as much sacrifice for the part time program as it does the full time one. Either way, you are giving up your life, only with the part time option you are giving it up for a longer period of time. Also, according to our teachers, the evening class has grades that are the pits and bad attitudes. Most of them work during the day and come to school at night so granted they are tired by the time they get there, but they dont participate in class, ask or answer any questions and dont put much effort into anything they do.

Personally I prefer just digging in and pushing through that one year, but I think its a matter of opinion. Id rather suffer for 12 months than 18....lol. luckily Ive almost served my year sentence! :chuckle

i graduated from a part-time LPN program that took 23 months to complete. Classes were monday, thursday and friday. 23 months may seem like a long time , but the program was great, and all of us worked while attending class; something that is very hard to do in a fulltime program.

Thanks for all of the replies. The program I am enrolled to start is 24 months in length (instead of 12) at a vocational school. It will be between 2-3 days a week (it changes every few months). I know it will be two years for me to get my LPN license, but I have small children and I don't want to disrupt their lives as much as possible as I pursue my dream. I also thought it might be easier on me to learn all of the information by taking it p/t instead of f/t.

Was the program easier for you since you took it on a p/t basis (inregards to learning all of the info)? I won't be working outside the home, but again, three kids are work:)

I believe the pt program was easier for me. before i got into the pt program i had been a fulltime college student, so the change to part time was nice. Expect a test every week, but you will have plenty of time to study for it. good luck.

Hi Everyone, I am trying t find a part time LPN program somewhere in the states, but can't seem to find one. Virginia would be great. I have searched on line, and nothing has come up. I am also interested in an on-line LPN program. If anyone has any information, can you please help. The LPN program I am in now is full time, and the pace is hectic. I am having trouble keeping up with 3 tests a week. Thank you so much.

Im doing a new ADN that they started, it makes you eligable for both test (RN and LPN) Insted of two years its three. I can only go part time becuse I work two jobs so that I can support myself. But I still have a year and a half left. :uhoh3:

My part time program is in Greenville, PA. There are actually a few p/t programs here in PA. Why not go to http://www.discovernursing.com and search under LPN programs for VA? You would have to call each one close to you to find out if they do have a p/t program, but it might be worth it to you.

Take Care.

Hi florence67, if you go to http://www.distance.minnesota.edu you should be able to get the information that you need for this part-time online LPN program. There are however some on site requirements with this program. It costs 180.00 per credit hour. Financial aid is available. Hope this helps:)

Hi Florence67. I currently attend a part-time, evening program. We are 5 1/2 months into an 18 month program and let me tell you that the pace is VERY hectic. There are some weeks that we have a test every day (the program is Monday thru Thursday and every other Saturday). You get used to it though. But, I must say that we started with 34 in our class and are down to 16. I'm not saying this at all to discourage you, but as someone else on this board said...LPN school can be compared to bootcamp :bluecry1: . If you can, I say tough it out in the program you're already in. I doubt you'd really want to start that all over again. Best of luck to you.
