Anyone take the Kaplan 50 question practice test? It made me not happy

I graduated May 8th with my BSN and did well in school. I'm STILL WAITING for my ATT. I got a 97% and 98% on my 2 ATI predictors we took prior to graduating, and did my Hurst review last week. I took another ATI test for practice to see what I knew in my content, and got a 93 on it. So I know some content I think...and I've skimmed Saunders btw. But Kaplan offered this free 50 question test to people and I decided to head to the Kaplan center and take it. According to that test, I'm "near passing" and would not have passed the NCLEX. But some of the questions honestly...made NO sense. And the lady who gave the test was a "Kaplan teacher of 12 years" she said. We all asked her the rationale to a few of the questions, she had NO CLUE why the answer was what it was. She stuttered and basically just blew them off.

For example, a kid has a broken arm..which action is most concerning to the home health nurse, and it was a kid coloring at the table, NOT the one with the plastic wrapped arm in the bath? Never knew plastic wrap was water proof when you wrap it around something... Next example..of the people who had a baby, 3 teens under 18 had a baby, one was 15 with pain of some sort..and another was multipara and 16..the lady in her 20's with a UTI requires home health care? And even though someone has chemo and that usually bottoms out their platelets and clotting factors..they are a higher risk for a DVT than someone with glaucoma surgery?

They said I need a 65% on that to pass NCLEX...I got a 64 on it. So they tried to sell me their $500 class, but said people who made over a 60 could get away with just the Q bank..I don't think so, but does anyone else feel some of Kaplan's question are kind off the wall? sorry for the rant, but this test stuff is startin to bug me, especially with orientation starting and every other school finishing their NCLEX, and mine still not even getting us an ATT!

I am taking Kaplan right now, spent the $500, and I gotta be honest with you: I think some of the questions ARE bogus... a few of the questions we've had have completely opposite rationales for the same type of questions. WTH, how do I know when to discard an answer because it's wnl or discard the answer because it is opposite of expected (when they are worded the same, different dxs, though)? Argh!!!!! I keep hoping I'll get it, that their money-back guarantee is right...

Oh, btw, we used plastic wrap for our son IN THE HOSPITAL... it does work, but you can't soak in the water, kwim? and you have to tape it up good!

Remember NCLEX RN is not the real world. The test focuses on all text book material. This is what to ALWAYS remember when answering the practice questions and the Master NCLEX RN examination......I did Kaplan three years ago, and I will not take it again. It didn't help me pass my test the first time. We all process differently. I believe Kaplan confused me moreso, than helped me pass the test. That's my :twocents::twocents:

The goal of the lady at the Kaplan center was to get you to sign up for their services. Approach preparation for NCLEX the way you want to do it and you should be fine.
