Anyone starting Regis College, MA this fall 2011

Published

Hello!

I am starting the Accelerated Direct Entry Masters program at Regis College this fall 2011! I would love to meet anyone starting the same program. Also any advice on preparing for graduate nursing school would be greatly appreciated! I am super excited, a bit scared and all things in between! :)

Hi Everyone!

I am currently waiting on a regular decision letter that I assume will come the end of this month. I was wondering how current students feel about the program especially when it comes to the quality of the teachers. I am a little concerned with Regis and here is why. I am currently taking a pre-req there- Chem 1 and 2 combined. Although we just had our first test which I did well on, the teaching style is basically "teach yourself" and the labs are extremely disorganized. I just hope that the nursing program is not the same way. If anyone can brief me on the teaching style or give any information at all it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi TaylorBean,

Sorry for the delayed reply. Nursing school is busy!!

I'll be honest I think there is a lot of work that you will have to do on your own, but I would think that of any nursing school. There is sooooo much info that you need to know there is no possible way that lectures can cover everything. That being said, I have had some very good lecturers during my time here so far and if anything isn't covered that you are expected to know or if you feel like you need more information on any topic, faculty are MORE than willing to meet with you outside of class to discuss. That is one great thing.

Labs and classes are usually fairly organized (occasionally if they're trying out something new it can get a little hectic, but they'll acknowledge this and account for it). Administration is a little more disorganized haha. However, I personally have never had a problem with administration (some of my peers cannot say the same), but I'm a firm believer that if you're patient with them they'll be more responsive to you.

I really like Regis, but I try to pain a realistic picture as well. Let me know if you have any more questions I should be more available now that the NCLEX is over (PASSED!! I will say Regis greatly prepared me for that. 2009's class had a 99% passing, 2010's class had 100% passing, and our class has 100% passing so far!)

Hey Jennifer,

I would like to say thank you for all of us who is reading your post and give us an insight on the school : ) I really like Regis and keeping my fingers crossed to hear something soon. Congrats on passing your NCLEX. Your hard work and sacrifice is slowing paying off. Hope you get to have a nice spring break or something

Yes thank you Jennifer!

I really like Regis too and hoping to hear good news here soon!

Please post when you hear anything!

Jennifer0512,

Thanks for all the information. And Congrats on passing! I am so excited about Regis. I have a question about how most students finance this program ( eg. Grants, Loans, Working + Loans). Any advice in that area?

There are a lot of different options for financial aid. The majority of students fill out the FAFSA (government loans) and get the majority of tuition paid that way although it won't cover all. If you still need what is left over covered as well other students fill out Grad PLUS loans, which I don't know a ton about, but I hear it's fairly easy to do and the financial aid office can help you with that. There are also student jobs on campus in the nursing department that will go straight toward tuition those are always a good option too! I don't believe Regis offers any graduate scholarships, but you can look for outside scholarships to apply to as well--nursing has quite a few.

Hello Everyone,

I got a letter from Regis that I am waitlisted. I really want to get into the program. Would someone have any suggestion what I should do? All advice and suggestion is very much appreciated :D

Hey all!

Deposit date for other schools is coming up here...Still haven't received a letter from Regis, just wondering if anyone knows when the deposit date is for Regis?

Heyy Lannygirl!

Some people in my program were able to get off the waitlist by calling in a few weeks to show them that you're still VERY interested. This of course isn't a guarantee because it depends on how many slots they have available, but that will definitely help your chances.

Good luck and keep us posted!
