Hello!
I am starting the Accelerated Direct Entry Masters program at Regis College this fall 2011! I would love to meet anyone starting the same program. Also any advice on preparing for graduate nursing school would be greatly appreciated! I am super excited, a bit scared and all things in between! :)
Hiking,
I asked the nursing department today about PDAs. We will receive info in the next few months... I asked about my iPhone. I asked if I could use my iPhone (but put it in airplane mode if necessary) and the nursing department said it should be fine.
Hopeully this helps! If you have further questions, email Vera (she sent us emails about schedule blocks)- she forwarded my email to the right people and I even heard back the same day.
Congratulations on your acceptance!
I'm Molly, I'm in my second year of the program with Jen.
For those of you that are coming from out of state I highly recommend having a car. Chances are you will be assigned to clinical sites that won't be accessible by the T or very challenging to get to at 6:30 am. The T is great when you have clinicals in Boston, as there won't be parking. I only had two clinicals in Boston, most of them have been out in the suburbs. The shuttle is also very limited, especially in the summer.
As far as housing goes I recommend looking at Waltham. It borders right on Weston and the rent is a lot cheaper than living in Boston. There's some public transportation (bus lines and commuter rail) and having a car there is pretty easy. Newton has some affordable apartments, but it's generally expensive. Finding an apartment in the suburbs will be a lot easier than finding one in the city.

Just about all the apartments in the area turn over Sept 1st, so there may not be a lot posted yet. I've found the majority of my apartments on craigslist. There's probably more postings looking for roommates than for empty apartments on there for the area. I did my undergrad in Waltham and my college has online classified ads as well which might be helpful
http://my.brandeis.edu/classifieds/ Just register for the site and you should be able to view the ads.
Or you could just always just pick a random realtor and give them a call

Hi everyone!
I just found this forum and I am so excited. I was accepted for September 2011 in early January. Unfortunately, I have not been getting my emails so didn't hear about the March 15 date and didn't get to pick my group choice until today. I am actually really disappointed. Can anyone tell me what the basic group 1 schedule looks like? The Group 2 schedules are all in the evening and as a mother of school aged children I am basically not going to get to see them at all. I had heard that those of us who got in early got to choose first so I am particularly unhappy.
It is a rough start for me when I have been so incredibly excited about starting at Regis. I'm sure I will get over it and be excited again. Any ideas on if I can fix this?
Jennifer, your posts are so helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to help the incoming students and congrats on the NCLEX. Hope to meet you soon!
First of all, congrats on your acceptance! And welcome to our little group here!
I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. I didn't get the email either and wasn't given much of an option for classes -- but stay in touch with **** in admissions and I'm sure she will take care of you if anything opens up in Group 1. If not, you'll be in Group 2 for just the first semester, which includes a break for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I've attached the Group breakdown below.
Look forward to meeting you! :)

Hiking,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm sure I can handle group 2 for one semester but it is a bit complicated in terms of child care for my boys. Either schedule will require some before or after school care that I need to sign up for now. It is really expensive and difficult to change (impossible!) once you are signed up. If I am in the evening I literally will not see my children 4 nights a week. We are pretty traditional - family dinners every night, lots of time with the kids in the evening, I put them to sleep every night (of their lives actually). It feels really difficult to give that up and change their days (and my relationship with them) so dramatically simply because someone put my email in incorrectly. Three months is a lifetime to a 7 year old!! I am trying to let go, though, and hoping something will open up in the day schedule.
You are moving here from CA, right? Let me know if there is something I can do for you. I am married, with 2 kids and a home in Sharon so am pretty established here. I actually used to live in Waltham, and in Brookline so I have some experience with the area.
Good luck!
Zjmaayan-
Glad you found us, and congrats on your acceptance! I'm sorry to hear about what happened with your email. There seems to be a lot of kinks with the emails -- I know I had an issue with it as well as other people, but I think that as the semester goes on things will iron out and there shouldn't be an issue in the future. I agree with Megan, contact the office and see what they can do to help- they have been great for me!
I could use your advice in regarding to living in Waltham. I am moving from California and was looking to live there, any suggestions for low cost but OK neighborhoods or certain apartments?

Shyarra,
Thank you so much for the heads up! Any information like that is extremely helpful, really appreciate it!
I have been in contact with a few realtors and have some family friends in the area that are helping me look for places as well, hopefully securing a place by late May. I'm just hoping for my lease to start in early August. I want to be out there for a few weeks before classes start to get all situated and acclimated to the area, and maybe be a tourist for little bit :)

About PDA's, are there students who use their phones for PDA's and just shut off the phone mode when at clinicals? Or is this something that is addressed by the hospital we are placed at?
