This thread is for anyone who is trying to get into, currently at, or graduated from Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh!
Hello all! I was wondering if anyone else took the PSB exam for Shadyside on 05/23/08?
I have a bit of a predicament. As you know, you can not move forward in the admissions process for Shadyside until you find out whether or you pass the PSB entrance exam. (well considering I only took it last Friday and won't know the results until sometime next week. Hopefully! ) Anyways, I was double checking to make sure I have everything together, so when I find out my results I can immediately send my application, etc in. In doing this I contacted my high school and they tell me they require at least 5-7 days ( business of course ) notice to forward transcripts. Primarily because i graduated "so long ago", my records were placed in archives/storage.
Question...Do I wait for the results of the exam, and pray my transcripts get there in time or do I request my transcripts be sent now and pray I passed the exam, so that I can continue forward.
I am not sure what the wiser decision would be. Any feedback would be gladly accepted. Thank you!
If I remember correctly, when I was applying to schools I had transcripts sent out to all the schools I was interested in early in the process. Of course it is more expensive that way, but it's more efficient.
I don't know who's in charge of the application process anymore, but you are allowed to call and ask them questions about how to expedite the process. The people in the office are pretty nice.
I had my transcripts sent prior to knowing the results of my exam because I had originally planned on applying for the Spring term of this year (I ended up not applying until March for Fall 2008) and I would have been cutting it close as you are. If I were you I would just have everything sent. If you do pass then it should all be there. If you don't they should keep those items on file. Good Luck!
Thanks! I am not a last minute person and right now not having things done properly and at the last minute are not going over real big with me right now. But, due to unforseen family emergency, I had no choice but to test last week and put myself into this situation.
I guess I'm just a bundle of nerves right now, too! Waiting for the results of the test, wondering if I'll make everything before the application deadline, hoping to be accepted, etc.
thanks for your input. Maybe I will just call and see. I think I need to call Natalie to find out.
hello everyone! just wondering if anyone who took the psb exam in may has gotten there results back yet. i just took mine last week and i'm getting anxious! wanted to see how much longer it would take. when i took it in february i waited 3-1/2 weeks to get the results. unfortunately, i can not wait that long as the deadline is fast approaching. i sent in everything just waiting on results and high school to forward transcripts.
just curious to see if they move a little faster when the deadline is upon us! thanks!
I took the PSB test in April and it took about 3 weeks to get my results. I was wondering what UPMC would do for those who are taking their exams later since the June 6th deadline is this Friday.
I was accepted into the program last week, but I turned down my application as I also got into Duquesne's BSN program on May 4th and recieved a scholarship. So - I definitely did not want to take someone else's spot in the program. But UPMC was my second choice!
Good Luck Everyone at UPMC!!! :)

:yeah:just wanted to let you guys know that with the purchase of Mercy, UPMC now has another school of nursing to consider. UPMC Mercy School of Nursing is a diploma program that runs from August until May 2 years away... ie, August 2008 until May 2010.
The school offers an excellent program with the benefit of almost all the clinical under one roof.

Actually, what we've been told at Shadyside is that Mercy school of nursing will be shutting down soon, and Shadyside will be offering jobs to some of their instructors, the rest will be out of a job.
That would be surprising in that Shadyside has all the students they can handle, so all they would get from the loss of Mercy would be a longer waiting list and the opportunity to use Mercy for clinical sites.
I would think that in a few years when the local nursing shortage turns into a glut, some sort of merger between the schools would be to both their benefit.
