:)Did anyone sign up for Microbiology at MCC for the 6 week summer session? Is this a crazy thing to do? This course is usually 16 weeks and I believe the instructor is somewhat tough. This is the only course left that I need and I'd like to get it out of the way now, but a good grade is more important. Or should I just wait til fall? If your signed up and want to start a study group let me know.:)

If you've been excepted into the program at MCC, you will find out at orientation that there are four different starts. (Aug., Oct., Jan., and March. If there are prereq's (like Micro) that you still need to take, you can put your name on a list for your preferred start date and reason why. If your still waiting to hear if you've been accepted, or you have yet to apply for the program, you still have time to take Micro, and not in such a compressed class.

I was accepted last spring, and still did not have all my prereq's finished. (Micro being one of them). I requested to start in January.

It's something to think about, if you are worried about keeping your GPA. Micro is a tough subject, but can be done in six weeks if you need to.

Thanks for the info. Are you in the program now? How is it going? As long as I get accepted into the program I will take the 6 week session so I can hopefully start in August. Still waiting for the acceptance letter. Who did you take micro with? You can pm me if you do not want to share the name on a post. Thanks

I can't PM yet, I don't have enough public posts yet. I know you're not supposed to give out names, but I'm sure whomever you got for Micro will be good.

You'll be just fine.

You're going for the program, which means you're willing to work for it!

As for the program, it's as intense as everyone warns, but again, it's worth it. It's a shock to the system, each time new classes begin, but you adjust, and then it's time for the next round!

You already sound like you're good at networking, and if you can, form a study group the very first day you start the program. They form very quickly!:icon_roll

You should be hearing something soon. Please keep me posted!

Well I was accepted into the Pathogenic Microbiology course for the summer and I am still on the waitlist for General Microbiology. Does anyone know if one is harder than the other??? Because if I get accepted to both I need to know which one to drop...lol

Which session did you get into AM or PM? I can't say for sure which would be harder, but my guess is Patho would be harder. I will be in the 1-5 summer session and am studying now, but using an old book.

Patho doesnt have a prereq and regular micro does, which I found strange. I wanted to take Pathogenic with the same professor I had for BIO 1000 because he was AWESOME. If you have him I would definetely take his class. PM me if you have the name of the professor!

Deb,

I have Patho from 05/26/2009-07/02/2009 Lecture Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 05:00PM - 06:55PM, CTR-J, Room 101 05/26/2009-07/02/2009 Laboratory Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 07:00PM - 08:55PM, CTR-J, Room 101...(LOL easier to copy and paste)

CorazonDeOro,

I am unsure of the Professor as it doesnt say anywhere I just have the email confirmation from a guy that was stating that I was in the class I dont know if that would be the Professor or not.

You guys are crazy! I'm in Micro now and it is tough! It's so much harder than A&P, because it's like relearning everything over again in a different way. I've been stressed since January because of this class, which is almost over...FINALLY!!! I guess if you have to do it, it can be done. But expect to do nothing else but study for the 6 weeks, and don't take any other classes with it. I can say that the labs are really interesting and kind of fun. But for the lecture portion, it is really tough and the book that MCC uses is really boring. Probably the worst written textbook I've ever seen. If you have an old back up reference it will probably be very useful. Good luck to all of you.

Aww, that is not the same one I am in. Good luck in your class though.

I am kind of worried about doing this in 6 weeks and do expect to do nothing else for 6 weeks. Kind of a bummer since that will be the beginning of our really, nice, short, season of beautiful weather. Oh well, I can study outside. I have been reading an old Micro book I've borrowed from someone to get a head start. Who did you have for this class. You can pm me. Thanks.

I did the class in the spring time, the 6 week version. This was in 2001. It was tough, but it was most definately not impossible.

You guys will be fine.

Good luck.

BTW, don't sweat that HESI, it really isn't all that difficult. Learn myasthenia gravis.

Thanks good luck to you as well
