  1. No one has any advice? Wow.
  2. Hello Texas. I am relocating to San Antonio to be with family. I currently have 6 years in the ICU. I am Balloon Pump certified, ACLS, BLS. I am looking for a Hospital to work at. I am moving to the 78264 zipcode. That's the NW side, outside of the 1604. I currently make $35.30 an hour. I work 12 hour shifts. Where is a good system to work? Good to me is an administration that doesn't move you around to different shifts and units, and tell you to get over it. I need decent insurance, as my wife is a type I diabetic, with an insulin pump. I never call in to work, but I do take one vacation a year for wife's birthday. Which hospitals offer 12 hour shifts? Any of these area hospitls pay in the 35 range for a seasoned RN? Thanks.
  3. ok, the crap that squirrelrn71 said, forget it, ignore this post. it doesn't matter what some 20+ year rn did 18years, 3 months ago. they need to pull thier own weight, i don't care if they pulled 6 months of back to back double shifts. any veteran nurse pulls this line of horsecrap on you, put in the same category as being a bully. tell them their past 20 years means jack and squat when it comes to them sitting back and relaxing at work. it's crap attitudes like this that make the term "nurses eat heir young". it's true, and mysteriosuly enough, female black widow and female praying mantis are known for eating mates after mating. veteran nurses tend to be the same when it comes to nursing. do not let them get away with treating you like this. stand up and fight, speak up. be proud of your gpa, anyone who tells you it doesn't matter is jealous. it doesn't make you a better nurse, or get you a job quicker, but it is an accomplishment, and is great for your self esteem.
  4. I see docs try it with females. As a male, at 6'0" and 250lbs of line backer build, they usually yell over the phone, look for me the next day, and then call me by my first name. I always repeat what they say that is inappropriate, so they hear what they are saying. Too many women take this, and they need to stop. I notice docs yell less when you have male nurses there, it's like they are afraid to step out of line when a male is there. I would hope that a group of girls can let that Doc know whats what also.
  5. I feel so bad for you. I tell you what I did, and still do to this day. I am a male, in my 30's. I get my attitude from my upbringing. My mother is a southern black, my father is a Jew. My paternal grandparents where holocaust survivors. They all had the same advice, and it has always worked for me: STAND UP TO A BULLY. Bullies are insecure, pathetic little people. Just stand up. Do not let them tread on you. They make comments about you, say in a clear voice: "will you repeat that?" Remind them that you will call security, call the police department, and use legal counsel. If you say it, then you must do it. Go to your manager. Give them 30 days to correct the issue. Make it clear that you do not appreciate the comments, and you are ordering them to stop. Tell them that it is NOT okay to speak to you this way. Take a voice recorder, wear it. Inform them that you have it, then use it. If they with hold unsafe info, just to see you fail, they are also liable, report this. Write incident reports. Be vicous, but be professional. If you stand up, I promise, someone else feels like you and has been there, they will step up with you. All else fails, you report to your state board of nursing.
  6. I did the class in the spring time, the 6 week version. This was in 2001. It was tough, but it was most definately not impossible. You guys will be fine. Good luck. BTW, don't sweat that HESI, it really isn't all that difficult. Learn myasthenia gravis.
  7. My mother told me in 1980, when I was a kid, that Men should be nurses. She was a nurse too. She said that people are getting older, meaner and she said they needed more men to help lift bigger people. She said all this in 1980. Well, since that time, I wanted to be a nurse. No other option for me. I do have a psyche degree on the side, but thats because I love psychology, I feel the best as a nurse.
  8. I wear Jordan's. They are expensive, but Mike knows his shoes man, they feel like you are walking on clouds.
  9. Does this question still come up? Is the gay nurse competent, provide high quality care, and is polite? Then yes, the gay nurse can take care of me as well as a gay girl nurse, straight male nurse, straight girl nurse, or even a tranny nurse.
