Anyone sign up for Micro at MCC for the 6 week summer session? Is this crazy??

:)Did anyone sign up for Microbiology at MCC for the 6 week summer session? Is this a crazy thing to do? This course is usually 16 weeks and I believe the instructor is somewhat tough. This is the only course left that I need and I'd like to get it out of the way now, but a good grade is more important. Or should I just wait til fall? If your signed up and want to start a study group let me know.:)

I signed up for the 6 week summer micro course too. Mine is later in the day from 1 until 5?

It would be nice to know if I am in the program or not because honestly, I would consider dropping the course for two reasons, to be able to vacation this summer, and to have the ability to take the 16 week course as it is recomended.

I decided to take it at OCC this summer for 8 weeks, but that scares me too! its 3 nights a week July thru August. That is another option for anyone who doesn't want to take the 6 week at mcc.

You may be crazy...lol. I took it in 10 weeks at Baker and it was rough, the syllabus actually said in it that it is one of the hardest classes you may experience, or something like that. I had other classes with it and it had a lab though. If it is your only class you may be okay.

That is the one I signed up for also. I wonder how many of us will be doing the summer class.

I tired to sign up for patho, but I got hella screwed because of their "priority registration" thing. I didn't have enough credits, so I couldn't register until the last day. I can't get into patho, but I'm taking beginning algebra instead (for HFCC's chemistry class). 6 weeks is crazy, but it will really test our ability to work hard because the nursing program is probably going to feel like a 6 week course!

Toxic Shock,

Keep trying to sign up. I'm sure some people will drop the class. If your lucky you will hit one of those days that someone dropped and you will get in. Did you sign up for the waiting list?

I am on a waiting list for both of the Micro classes for this summer hopefully I will be able to get into 1 at least.

Let me know if anybody forms some sort of a study group.lol

I'm sure if your on the wait list you will get in. I was 14th on the wait list last fall and got in, but decided against taking it along with A & P . I'm already studying since doing this class in 6 weeks is a scary thought. If your interested in studying together let me know. I borrowed a copy of the 5th edition microbiology book and am using that to study from.

Yeah I am going to go tomorrow and figure out what material is needed for this course so I can get a head start on it. I am taking Anatomy in the Fall and thats the only class in the fall that I am going to take I think because I really need to do good on it as well as pass the HESI.

In case you didn't already know; you can see the books that are needed for the course online. just go to macombs website and click on online bookstore, then enter the course number and it will show you what is needed. Let me know when you get into the class.:wink2:

If you've been excepted into the program at MCC, you will find out at orientation that there are four different starts. (Aug., Oct., Jan., and March. If there are prereq's (like Micro) that you still need to take, you can put your name on a list for your preferred start date and reason why. If your still waiting to hear if you've been accepted, or you have yet to apply for the program, you still have time to take Micro, and not in such a compressed class.

I was accepted last spring, and still did not have all my prereq's finished. (Micro being one of them). I requested to start in January.

It's something to think about, if you are worried about keeping your GPA. Micro is a tough subject, but can be done in six weeks if you need to.
