MONEY magazine did an article on a couple from the Philippines who came to the US to work as nurses. It is all about the Cariagas from Mindanao who came to John Hopkins Hospital. The article is well written and they seem like VERY nice people!
The article explains how the couple had so much trouble figuring out stocks, 401(K)'s, retirement accounts and navigating the US consumer credit system. This is a good article for any nurse thinking of coming to the US. It is a good idea to get a good book or two on credit, stocks, bonds and US retirement accounts so you will not struggle with those issues. In addition to your regular saving from your job, there is a great deal of money/opportunity available to you if you properly manage you investments and credit.
MONEY does have a website that you may want to check out for information. This article is not on the website, So if you can get your hands on a copy of the JULY 2006 issue of MONEY magazine read it.

yes, this is useful info (along with suzy orman's). i'm sure not only filipino nurses but all new "transplants" would greatly benefit from this article. funny but i also find it assuring that nurses are troubled by investing their money and not the LACK of it.
The title? Welcome to the land of plenty.
Thanks sunnyjohn! :w00t:
It certainly sounds very inspiring! :wink2:
