Hey all,
I'm at a stretch for help at passing the NCLEX. I have been unsuccessful 3 times now. The first time I took the NCLEX I reviewed with kaplan online. The 2nd time I used saunder's Q&A book and the 3rd time I did kaplan classroom based course. This 4th time I have been preparing with the book NCLEX-RN Made Incredibly Easy Review book and the Q&A book. I havent heard much about that book helping at all, it was simply a reccommendation from a friend of my mother's who has been a nurse for a loooong time now. I think she doesn't realize that the NCLEX has changed but I dont feel like that book is helping me. I've already wasted 5weeks studying from it.
I heard about NCSBN and wanted to know if anyone has taken this course and what they thought of it. Is it worth it or not? Its very affordable for me but I just hope that it helps this time. I plan to apply for the course tommmorrow but before I do I wanted to check with people who have actually done this method.
Please respond.

I know of one nurse whom I work with, he is supersweet, that the second time he took the NCLEX, that the www.learningext.com is all he studied. THat is the ncsbn site.
That he would sit infront of his computer all day and that is what he would do.
2 friends of mine took it as well, and they both said that it looks just like the screen in the real nclex.
I was about to purchase it, and it is not user friendly at all. I wanted to pay for it, and I put it into my "cart" and I can't find a place to put in my payment infor to finalize the purchase.
Right now I am doing just kaplan, and listening to Helen Feuer cd's in the car.
Let me ask you both a personal question. What was it about kaplan that did not help you?
Everyone I know who has taken kaplan has passed. that is one reason why I chose kaplan.
thanks girls!
Honestly, I wish I could answer that question for you but I really have no idea. I thought kaplan was the greatest thing since life spread, but for me it just wasn't the key. I think the thing that screwed me over was their techniques at answering the questions. Like that question tree thing they teach you.....Well, you obviously cannot use it for each and every question b/c some questions are just worded so that you can't use the strategy. YOu just have to KNOW some questions so I think kaplan confused me in some sense. I feel like kaplan was the closest to the real test as far as studying material BUT for some odd reason, it just doesn't work for me. Everyone is different though.
No you can't use their decision tree in every question. There was one question that the patient was already assessed, and I thought the answer was to implement something... but it was to call the doctor. And they tell you to never "pass the buck"
SO I agree that it somethings it doesn't work. I hope it works for me,because I will take the test pretty soon.
I will buy the ncsbn site, just for practice more questions since I am done with kaplan. The site looks good, they give you material to read online only, no printing, and then give you a 40q quiz. at the end. and they give you the rationale for the right answer only.. which that sucks.. I like to know why the answer is wrong.
A lot of people recommend that site. I am going to do it, but it is not user friendly at all so I will have to call the 800 number they have.

I used it in conjunction with Saunders on my 3rd attempt and found it very useful but this was a few years ago. Have you thought about Suzanne's plan?

I used it with Suzanne's plan ( once for PN & once for RN. ) Passed both Nclex's first time. The NCSBN site gives you different amounts of weeks to purchase. I did the 6 week since we covered the Saunders Review book & CD all through school. The #questions they give you depends on the number of weeks you buy. I passed my NCLEX-RN Sept 22nd 07'. I think it helped, although I have two dear friends that have failed their boards at least twice and they said they used the NCSBN site. However, I know they didn't do Suzanne's plan with it.

Kaplan was very effective for me, coz the questions were more difficult than the actual exam!
