i am going uniform shopping shortly and need some recommendations for shoes. i need these things to last me at least 2 years and i'll be wearing them to work (i work as an aide in LTC) and to school. i also need a reasonable price.

i've seen recommendations for Dansko's the most, but $110 is kinda steep for me...unless someone can attest to them lasting me a LONG time.

my school doesn't allow clogs, by the way.

so, what nursing shoes do you have and what experience do you have with them?

Thanks!

I have an all-white pair of Easy Spirit shoes that I bought at a uniform store. I used them just for clinicals, but they were very comfortable, and I never had sore feet after my shift.

My friend is a sales rep for Dansko. He says they are the best shoe on the market for nursing and hold up real well to wear and tear. He might be biased...but I did get myself a pair for clinincals this fall. I got the Dansko Occupational Jocelyn style. I don't mind paying $116 dollars for me feet not to hurt. It is worth the price to be pain free.

I tried some european brand called "fly-flot" my first quarter; clogs with a backstrap are allowed for my clinicals. Inside of two days I had blood clots in my toenails that took 7 months to grow out (big ole black spots- eew) and I went home crying. So umm, those wound up in the salvation army bin. Then I tried a pair of nursemates and they hurt ; put a pair of Dr. Scholls gel pads in them and it improved them for all of two weeks, then back to HOLY MOLEY foot pain.

What finally worked for me is the $25 shoes I found at Walmart called "tredsafe". They lasted the last half of first year, we will see what happens in the fall when I consistently have more than 1 patient during clinicals. They come in different styles, the ones I have look like (and feel like) good slip-on tennis shoes.

After 13 years, I have to say again that these are the most comfortable shoes. Go to the Lands end website (Landsend.com) They are called All Weather Mocs. They are suede, many colors, even white leather (Service Moc) I use Dr Scholls gel inserts with them, and oh man...........! OH and added bonus, only $30!!!! SG

Wow....sounds like your shoes might've been too small, or you could've used a wider size?

For anyone shoe shopping, I always heard you should shop at the end of the day when your feet are a little swollen.

being an aide i just wear sneaks to work...my feet do fine, but have had mishaps with fluids getting inside of them due to the seams. (luckily NO BODY FLUIDS! just clean shower water thank GOD!) anywho....i was kinda bummed about not being able to get them for clinicals because i can't see any fluids getting in besides if something squirts you in the back...which i'm sure is rare.

thank you all for the input! i've started my hunt for the perfect nursing shoe..i'll keep you posted!
