Anyone LOSE WEIGHT in nursing school?

I put on 20 lbs as a freshman and sophmore and I took 25 pounds off this year. Mostly due to working two jobs and not having enough time to eat bad food. I'm working hard to keep it off though. I was never overweight just had a little extra badonkadonk though I wonder how much weight I'll put on when I actually become an RN.

I walk on a treadmill with a book holder on it, so I study and exercise! Isn't that what we learn as NS; multi-tasking?;)

I've lost about 5lbs. so far this quarter. I pan outmy meals and pack a lunch every night before class the next day (full of healthy food) to prevent myself from eating out on campus. On clinical days I barely have time to eat lunch. I guess I've just been so busy that I don't have time to really eat junk (except on weekends and tonight because it's Halloween).

I am a part time nursing student, meaning I dont clinical classes yet just theory classes. And I decided that since I wanted to start NS in good physical shape, while I was not fully in NS I would drop the required weight. I started out in June at 324, and am down to 264, and I have 64 more to go! By July 08 I will be at my desired weight and body build. That way when NS starts I can have the weight of and have ways of eating healthy and do exercise so that I do not become a mess during and after school. By that time I will just be maintaining, since doing what I do now wont be possible at this time next year!

I lost a bunch of weight after Nutrition. After studying the rationals for eating whole food I feel extreme guilt when I eat fast food. Now I just need to force myself to exercise!

OK I started out by gaining weight, becoming too stressed and not exercising. Then I realized I was weargin an 18, never had I been this size before. I was feeling tired and I had to stop the weight, so I did like many others. I went to my doctor told him my sob story. He gave a RX for Adipex. I take a half a pill a day, and it helps to curb my appetite. I started in Febuary and have lost 32 pounds so far. It has been a long, and tedious process. I still get to exercise like I use to, but at least the weight is coming off. Good luck and hang in there.

im not in ns yet but my sister is and she's definitely lost weight. she's already thin but she's been having a hard time getting used to all the sights and smells so she doesn't eat on clinical days because she's afraid she'll throw up.

Lose as much as you can now, y'all. Within reason, of course, don't do anything silly. Night shift (which most of us end up on in our first jobs) is the diet killer. I lost almost 20lbs during NS and orientation (which at my hosp is on day shift) and once I started nights I gained all of it back. Don't let yourself get sucked into the vending machine trap. It sings a siren song of taking a little break to wake yourself up walking over there, and then there's a treat at the end! Eating to stay awake = bad.

I am a rarity.

I was told to PUT ON weight when I started my nursing program!!

Go figure that I was young and healthy.

This was the orders of the Doc during my first physical!!:uhoh3:

I wish I was! I lost 27lbs over the summer, and I swear I have gained about half of that back so far this semester. I think it all depends on how you deal with stress. I tend to eat when I am stressed thus extra weight piles on, lol.

My treadmill was strategically placed in the living room near the patio window, in front of the TV, with a book holder, a holder for 2 waters, a speaker for my Ipod, near the air conditioner vent. I started school atand weighed almost 200. I am 9 months in and now am down 25 pounds. So hopefully by the time I complete NS I will be at a comfortable weight so that it does not interfere with my career or knees.

No, I do not work (I did work this Summer as in intern 32 hr /wk though) but I have two young children and do a lot of volunteer work and extracurricular activities with them. one of my kids is home all day every other day so that is like a job! The program I am in is a night/weekend option and I'd say at least half if not more, of our class work at least part time. We have many full time workers. And we also have many full time moms and daycare providers also. So, it is for the non traditional student! Works great for working students or those with daycare issues.
