anyone know where I can buy malt supec?

Published

Hey,all! My mother called me to see if I could find Malt Supec. We used to put it in baby's bolttles to help their bowels move. My 1 month old nephew is not having bowel movements. He had 1 or 2 the 1st few days after he was born...they are up in Chicago...I'm down here in Fl. Any ideas on where I can find this? Or what to use instead???

If the boy is NOT having bowel movements --at all-- I would check w/a pediatrician. Really, I don't know what you mean by not having bowel movements....for how long? Hours? a Day? DAYS? I always relied on natural fruit juices to help a baby along. This baby is quite young to be constipated, especially if he is breastfed. I would be checking into WHY the baby is not having bowel movements before doing ANYthing to treat it. You could cause an even worse situation if you make the child have too many too often, leading to dehydration. One suggestion I have is to call an Ask-A-Nurse triage line at your local hospital and pose this question to them. Maybe they can give you some ideas after getting more information from you, on what can help. Be VERY careful doing anything to bring on bowel changes in a baby so young w/o professional advice! ---good luck!

I agree with the above post.... if in fact the doc says it's ok, then try fruit juices first, or I had good success with dark karo syrup in the bottles

The karo syrup worked well for one of my babies too, and was recommended by our pedi, and I definitely agree with Deb's advice too.

We had this problem with my eldest when he was a baby,my midwife told me to thouroughly wash an orange, pierce it and give him a couple of teaspoons of the fresh juice - wouldn't you know it,he pooped as I was preparing his culinary delight!

Wouldn't let it ride too long though, but I'm sure you know that.

P.s. Just re-read your first post again,it sounds as if this babe has not b.o since a couple days old-is that right???

Doctors asap! good luck!

Definitely recommend taking him to the doc!

Exactly how long has it been since this baby has pooped????

If it has been a month, WHY havent they called the Doctor???

Some babies will go several days between poops, it is okay and may be his normal stooling pattern.

Do not try home remedies without consulting the pediatrician. It can be very dangerous.

When I stopped breastfeeding, my daughter became so constipated that she developed a bowel obstruction. Thankfully they were able to manually get it to move. I had called at 2 days of no poop (i was so used to the 10x/d with b'feeding) and they let it go 5. I was pretty upset, but definitely happy with the outcome.

we need an update...did he poop or not!?!??!?!?

Sorry, everyone!!!

I guess I totally left out that they were getting him to have BM's by using suppositories! I told them they never should have waited this long to get Little Aaron to the DR. My Mother says that he has a DR. appt. to find out what the cause is...we shall see, we shall see...they call me for the little stuff, but, something this important they didn't think was worth bothering me about!!!
