Hey I was wondering if anyone was around where I live?
I live in Long Island.
Goint to start my BSN this fall.
Any Long Islanders out there give a shout out
and us about yourself
I'm an NCC student heading into 105 this semester. The program is quick, inexpensive and I've found it to be pretty fun and the friends I have are great. There was a post above mentioning a waiting list but no such thing exists. Every semester people apply in the same pool of applicants regardless of how often or when you applied previously. Also the night program is very difficult but the final GPA cut was a 3.7, the day program was 3.3. so there are no people with 4.0 who didn't get in. I highly recommend it if it's condusive to your schedule and needs, I have nothing but good things to say about it. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I dont know what the cut off is for the program now, but when I was at nassau taking my prereqs there were people with 4.0's waiting to get into the night program, and the cutoff wasnt that much lower than that for the day program. I graduated from there with an AS in science and math in may of 2000, so this would be for the class going in from 1997-to at least 1999. I hear that nassau has a really good program, and I know how hard the prereqs are when you take them at nassau, but the only negative thing I can say about that program, is this. When I was doing my senior internship (which nassau students dont do), I came across a clinical group from nassau, and they were in thier last semester. While I was doing procedures and meds, they were spending all day doing patient care. Not that you shouldnt be doing patient care in clinicals, but by the last semester you should be doing mostly clinical things like meds, treatments, and procedures, instead of doing the same things you do in your first semester. However, I have seen some of the careplans that they make them do in nassau, and they were very detailed, and required a lot of time, in addition to having instructors that were not easy on the grading. If you get an A in nassau's program, that is not easy. Good luck to whatever program you choose.
It's very possible that was the case a few years back. I only squashed it here because I know how hard it was when people told me similar things during my pre-reqs and how frustrated/relieved I was to find they were false. You're right about our care plans, any professor there will tell you that if you're not excellent in care plans--go to Adelphi, Stonybrook, Molloy basically ANYWHERE else :) For some people they take 40 hours and get a minimum pasisng grade. This I have to say--really sucks. BUT any graduate of our program has an amazing knowledge of disease process from a cellular level and has a deep understanding of why nursing interventions are actually done from all our care plan work. You bring up a good point about clinicals --even in the last semester, people are still doing AM care. Every new step you do like VS, AM care, MEDS, ROM, Nutrition therapy --you have to do each one no matter how many you learn --you build on each one but are required to do all every clinical plus the one you just learned... so basically you give a hella lot of baths

Hi Deb,
I just moved back to NY from Florida, and I am now living in Levittown too. I am waiting on my NY license. I want to work at Norh Shore plainview too, can you tell me anything about the hospital. What unit are you in, I am experienced in Womens health/Gyn Surgery, do they have a unit like that? What is involved in the interview process? How much do they pay? Thanks in advance.
Michele
Hi Michelle,
I'm just the opposite, I moved from NY to Florida. I originally lived in East Meadow. I also worked at NSUH - in Manhasset.
I believe that the starting salary for an RN is $58,000 at the Manhasset Campus, probably not much different at the other sites. It's a great hospital. If I ever do move back to NY, I would definitely look into NSUH.
Good luck,
Kris

Hello Kris
Where are you in Florida? Which Hospital are you working at. I use to be at Orlando Regional - Lucerne Campus. Are there any differences between NY and Florida hospitals? How would you compare the working conditions between them?
