Anyone heard from Deaconess about summer start admissions?

I just wanted to see if anyone has heard from Deaconess regarding whether they were accepted or not for summer? I put my application in back in February and was told I would know something on Friday, April 1. I emailed the admissions rep, but still haven't heard anything. Anyone else in the same boat?

Thanks!

Ok, I just got of the phone with the admissions lady at Deaconess and she said that the first "wave" of applicants were chosen already. I guess if you were in that group you would already know of your acceptance status. The second "wave" will be chosen on April 12. I'm not sure if they are waiting to see how many of the first group are going to come to Deaconess or not. I guess then maybe they would fill the empty spots with the second group? I'm not sure, that's just my imput.

Anyway, I have a bachelors degree in a non-health care field and I didn't make the first cut. I did, however, get accepted to three other nursing programs in my area, so I think I will probably just go and make a decision as to which one I will be attending and send my deposit now before it's too late and I don't have a spot anymore:(

Good luck to all of you and keep us posted as to your status:)

Did they actually say you didn't make the first cut? I know it sounds obvious but maybe they just picked 10 out of the twenty available positions the first day they met and were going to continue on the 12th. I'm glad that you have other options. If I had a degree I could apply to St. Louis University where they have a one year BSN avialable to those who have a degree in something else and have completed A&P and Micro...but I don't, and the community college has a two year waiting list, so I wait with hope that this will work out! I wish you luck!

Yes, she said I didn't make the first cut. She said their program has become "very competitive".

The closest BS-BSn program near me is an hour and a half in either direction. I thought about doing that also, but they are also 66 credits in one year.

I applied to a local lpn program, another part time lpn program, and my cc RN nursing program. I was accepted to all three but I think I'm leaning towards the part time lpn program since I have small children.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi ya'll.....

I too have submitted my last transcript to Deaconess (last documents needed), only to be told by the admission counselor (I won't say her name) that she has not received it. I sent it directly to her attention! :stone

She said that she'd call me back when she's received it. I guess, since she has not called back, she has not received it. I guess I'll have to send another one. :uhoh21:

I didn't get accepted either. I received my rejection letter earlier this week. I was surprised. I have a BA in comuter science and I was accepted at one of the local private colleges into their RN program its 2 1/2 years and I am also applying to a direct entry program which is 16 months. I am a little worried, since I didn't get accepted to Deaconess, if I will get into the direct entry program.

I'm assuming that they didn't give you any indication as to why they didn't accept you, did they? Have you completed anything like A&P, Micro, Chemistry? I guess I am wondering if people who have completed some of the course work have a better chance of getting in then those who need to start at the beginning. Is the other direct entry program online or local?:)

Does anyone else know about the Summer session? I was just told by one of the admission reps that there was no summer session.

Cool, your in Cleveland. Your only an hour and a half from me:)

I don't know much about Deaconess and their acceptance procedures. I was told that my "application" would still be reviewed on April 12 (if there are any further openings I presume). But with a bachelors degree, an honors GPA, and many of my prerequisites completed, I didn't get accepted either. The only thing that I can figure is maybe they are trying to only accept people that live near hospitals that they have contracts with for clinicals. That would be smart since they want their students to be able to complete the entire program.

I wouldn't worry much about not getting accepted at other programs locally. I was accepted to three other nursing programs. I was going to apply to the direct entry programs too but they are all an hour and a half from me. And with three small kids, I can't do 66 credits in one year. Edinboro has a nice program, though, if you are interested.

Take care and keep us posted.

To my knowledge, there is a summer start. However, maybe it is already full and that's why they said there wasn't (since maybe it's not possible to start now)? All I can say is call back and talk to a different admissions rep.

Good luck:)

I was told that there is a summer start but not a fall start (there are Fall classes for those already in the program but not a fall start) Just January and May. I asked the rep what day the summer session began and she said something like May24th.

After reading your post above... it is official....I am definatley depressed now. If you didn't get in with your qualifications, then I don't think I have a shot. I had thought since my GPA was 3.5 and I had A&P I & II completed, as well the other Gen Ed stuff, and am almost done Micro that I might be able to get in, but if you didn't I certainly don't see how I could. I'm not sure who fits into the desired category. You mention clinical sites, there aren't any hospitals close to you that have an agreement with DCN?

Don't get depressed, until they tell you "no", you still have a shot. Maybe they are just picky, I don't know.

Not to my knowledge are there any hospitals in this area that allow Deaconess students. I contacted a few hospitals on my own and were turned down for each. However, I had already had enough contracts signed with clinics and doctors offices to carry me for the first year (the PN portion). I was going to complete the PN portion, sit for the license, and then recontact the hospitals about finishing the second half of the program with them (since this was the hospitals' suggestion anyway). I guess they are looking for people who can carry the full two years without stopping for the PN Nclex? I don't know. (Deaconess told me you have to apply for a leave of absence after the third semester if you want to sit for the Nclex-PN. You weren't allowed to go straight to the fourth semester since they said you needed time to study. I can see their point).

Anyway, don't give up hope. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you:)

Unless there have been alot of program changes I haven't hear about, Deaconess's ASN program starts three times a year. LTNurse started last summer and I started last Fall. Someone posted here today that they were accepted for summer so there definitely is a summer session starting. There is probably some truth to the idea that having a firm clinical site for your experience carries weight with the acceptance committee. That is why I set out first thing to get a site setup.

Best of luck to all of you and try to relax and enjoy your weekend. I remember being in your shoes just about a year ago.

I just want to let you know my GPA was lower than a 3.5 and I recently got accepted to Deaconess. So don't get depressed. There is still hope!
