Hi Everyone,
I failed the NCLEX-RN June 10th at 265 questions. I am rescheduled to take it July 25th. I got my results in the mail yesterday informing me that I was "near passing" in every single category; which to me means, I need to study everything from the bottom up. I did the Hurst Review and have the option of doing their 45-Day remediation course, or I was thinking of signing up for Kaplan. Anyone have an idea of which would be the better road to take?
Thanks!

i failed at 265 too....i did kaplan ..now am doing hurst...honestly...i would not waste the money on kaplan....kaplan questions are awesome and you will notice they are very similar to nclex but i didnt really like the review course....if you google "kaplan question trainers" you can find LOTS of questions and rationales for free....which is the best part of kaplan by far...idk if im allowed to put the website on here or i would give it to you
...also...lacharity prioritization and delegation book is AWESOME and lots of people recommend it...i just did about 1/4 of it bf nclex now im doing the whole thing

OP, did you pick up the Hurst Review NCLEX-RN Review book that you can get at B&N or Amazon? Having that book, in addition to the core concepts book they give you during the live review, helped me out a lot. I stink at analysis, I stink at strategy, I tend to stink with critical thinking in general. I did really bad on the school's ATI Critical thinking exam going into NSG school; I did worse just a few months ago on the exit exam if that tells you anything.
I don't know why Hurst sells this book separately, but it goes into great detail about NCLEX test taking strategies, how to break down the question, what NCLEX is looking for and soforth.
I did the Hurst Live review early in May. This afternoon I finally took the NCLEX exam and passed at 75. Granted, it took me 3 long hours to nitpick those 75 questions apart, but I was able to be confident in the answers I selected. I walked out of the building knowing that I passed, even though there were only two or three where I was absolutely 100% confident that I got them right. I was glad to walk out of there like a NORMAL human being instead of the sobbing and hysterical mess my RN friends warned me about.
In addition to studying the Hurst Review materials, really the only thing I did was go through all the stressors and noted what the most dangerous complications of each were and the presenting s/s. That helped me out a lot on the test too.
I probably sound like a salesperson, but if it were me, and I didn't have the strategy book, I'd get it and look at it before shelling out the $$ for a different review company. Good luck to you!

If you don't have to pay for the Hurst remediation course, I would go for that one. Good luck on your retake.

Hey what did you end up doing with Hurst? Im also torn, i failed at 265 and debating to return the book to Hurst and sign up for Kaplan.
Hey cruzystudying,
Hang in there and give it your ALL. I ended up following the Hurst Remmediation packet and spent 45 days studying-like-crazy. On the day of my nclex I still felt unprepared and scared to death. I planned on being there another 6 hours.
I took the test the second time in about an hour and 15 minutes and the computer shut off at 75 questions. I felt very confident and and felt like I knew the answers on many of the questions. There were some SATA questions that I just put my head down and wanted to cry because I was SO certain with my answers!
After my 1st test, I felt like I was going to be one of those people who would have to take it 5-6 times, so I gave it my all and studied my heart out. I hated this past summer because I spent most of it in doors with my nose in a book, but it was SO worth it
GOOD LUCK AND DON'T GIVE UP!! I KNOW it feels like the end of the world, but you will get through it if you put in the effort! Go big!
:) :)
