Anyone getting ready to apply for Fall 2009?

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm still fairly new to this site. I haven't posted much, since I just joined, but I've been reading lots and lots - even before I joined.

I just wondered, are any of you getting ready to apply for Fall 2009? I'm working on finishing up my first degree, and planning to apply to an accelerated program to get my BSN in two years.

I'm volunteering at a local hospital, reading books (have any of you read Tilda Shalof's Story of a Nurse? It's really good!), and getting some early studying in for the Anatomy and Physiology class that I need to do next semester as a pre-requisite. I need to apply this winter, but I'm just trying to get an early start on things, especially in the summer, while I'm not at school (working, though).

For those of you that are getting ready to apply, what are you doing to get ready?

I just thought we could support each other while we're working out way through the application process!

I'm applying for Fall 2009. So far I only have 2 prerequisites finished (Chem and Developmental Psych), but I'm taking 4 courses over the summer, 4 courses in the fall, and I'll have space for whatever program I get in to's specific prerequisites (Drexel wants a computer science class, Penn wants a 2nd semester of Bio, Jeff wants another semester of Chem).

I'm nervous- mostly about how I will pay for school: the current state of the economy will effect my ability to get a private loan, the state ended it's loan forgiveness program, and my Stafford loan will be tapped by the time I finish prerequisites.

Hi poster,

The nursing school I am applying for [by] Aug 31, 08 is Charity School of Nursing (partnered with Delgado CC) for an ASN degree.

Upon completion I plan to bridge over to LSU's BSN program for my own personal satisfaction and because I am really interested in the master's degree options.

The minimum requirements too apply are:

Algebra

English Comp I

A&P I + Lab

Psychology

I am taking AP I over the summer so I can apply in August for fall 0f 2009.

The other requirements may be completed during nursing school [if you are insane] or before entry.. which I plan to do in fall 08 and spring 09.

CSN also requires the TEAS entrance exam.. which I will be taking next month.. the study guide is really helping!

I'm really excited!

Welcome to this site and the pre-nursing board.. there are so many wonderful and helpful people you will find.. I could spend hours reading!

:)

I am also applying for Fall 2009! all I have left to take it micro and then I will be done with all my pre-req:yeah:. I hope I get in because if I don't I will go crazy doing nothing for 1 year until i can re apply! Good luck to everyone

Hi All,

I too will be applying for fall 2009. I was in a program this past spring, but failed fundamentals by 1.9 points :banghead::banghead:. Although, I am very disappointed I do understand where I fell short and will work on those areas. I believe that everything happens for a reason so I will continue to move forward. Unfortunately, I cannot return to the same school; I will be applying to at least 5 schools ( PBISN and LICH are my prefrence). I've completed all my prereqs, so I am studying my old fundamentals book to enhance my "critical thinking" skills, which is the main reason I failed.

Good Luck Everyone, God willing this time next year we will all be nursing students :nurse:.

:yeah:

At first I was hoping for Spring of 09, but now that my husband will probably not graduate until Spring of 09, I'll have to wait for Fall of 09. Can't both be in school at the same time!

I just graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology at University of California-San Diego with an overall gpa of 3.6 and a 3.7 gpa for my major. So far I still need to take micro, but I have a 4.0 gpa for my prereqs. I went to Honduras this March for a medical brigade and thats where I'm getting my letters of recs from and luckily they all sent me a copy of what they said. I'm currently applying to John Hopkins and hopefully I"ll know if I got in by March so I don't have to apply for any more schools. But if I do then I'm looking into NYU, UMass, and UM. Is there anyone else applying for Hopkins at this time?

Yeah, I was just taking my Health Records to the Community college I will be attending. I didn't realize till late in the game that I needed a Nurse Aid training course. My advisor never said anything other than I didn't need to do a thing. ( I was in the nursing program 15 years ago). This makes me nervous, because I haven't had this stuff for so long, and their like..OK with it! I was sure they would tell me I needed to do everything over. That would've been the deal breaker for me. I have 4 kids, one whom graduated in 06 in Business Marketing, one who is a senior at Cincinnati Christian U, as a biblical studies major and my 3rd is a Freshman at Savannah college of art and design in performing arts. I have a high school student at home, and I certainly don't want to putz around, you know what I mean? Not at MY age! So when they told me I was all set to apply, this was in March of this year..Months ago! I decided to go back to school right after the application deadline..which was in January...so I've had this whole year of the frustration of WAITING!! Now I find out I need Nurse Aide Training. thank Goodness I'll have enough time. Then I have to take Patient care skills which I took back then, but the woman in charge said I better take it again.

So, there you have it. I've been "not-so-patiently" waiting this whole thing out. When I finally get in..which I WILL, I am a Surgical Tech of which I went to the same school, you will here me frommy rooftop to whereever you are, I'm sure. :yeah:

I have applied and have been accepted into a nursing program where I will start classes in Fall 09! Only 2 more quarters of pre reqs and then I'll be ready to go! I still have to take A & P 2, Nutrition and Micro.

Good luck to all of you!

Your GPA is very competitive for the BSN program and based on your volunteer experiences, I would doubt very much that you wouldn't offered admission. If you are waiting on Hopkins to give you notice and they are your first choice, perhaps you can ask to change your application to Early Decision and be notified in mid-December. That would definitely lessen your wait time if you feel confident that you'd attend if you were accepted.

I would love to know by December and I would definitely go if accepted. It is my first choice, but I didn't turn my application in till Nov. 15 and early decision applications were due Nov. 1. It would be great if they allowed me to change my status to early decision, but I feel like it would be difficult to do that. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks for your suggestion Asherah! Are you currently in JH-SON?
