Anyone in Fl doing excelsior college? I am afraid I will have spend all that money and not be able to get my nursing license.
I live near Orlando and I am doing the Excelsior program, I was going to apply to NC also, but now I guess it will be MN, not sure how long the case by case basis goes. I am a Florida LPN and took my NCLEX for the state, so hopefully I may get some favor, but not sure if I want to waste more time.
Yep! I am a LPN in Miami with 4 more exams (plus pass CPNE) to take to finish Excelsior's program. I am not worried about the FL BON, worst case I will apply for NY license (where Excelsior is a real brick and mortar school) and endorse to FL. It would be so cool to say I have my RN license from NY state anyway!!!!!! I am thrilled with my academic adviser, and love going at my own pace. I would finish quicker if I had the cash, but the whole program will have taken me about 1 year by the time I'm done. I plan on immediately enrolling in Excelsior's RN-BSN program too.
Good luck and jump on in! The water's fine!!!
Here is some words of encouragement for Florida EC students, YES Florida BON now accepts EC as an accredited nursing program. As of July 1 of this year all you have to do is apply to the BON and take your NCLEX, no hassles at all. Two of us from FL took our CPNE in March and graduated in May, we both waited until July to apply to the BON for our license, I tested on August 19th and she tested on the 24th and received our licenses with in a couple of days of each other.
I applied for a Psych position at a Magnet hospital and she applied for an ED position at a small community hospital, she was hired on Sep 1 and I was hired on the 9th.
So, yes Florida BON does accept EC now, yes you can license by examination and yes you can get a job as an RN with your EC degree.
Good luck to Y'all

Since I am on the waiting list to recycle back into the LPN program and I already have signed up with Chancellors (and was told I can not stop the from being billed.) I wanted to go ahead and finish up the RN pre-requisites. Looks like I'm gonna have to do the LPN to RN program as well, since most are saying that I can not transfer credits from Excellsior to a 2yr college (which by the way the admissions counselor said I could transfer them) This is confusing and kind of frustrating. I'm not sure what to do since I will continue to be billed and I have about 6mths to go before I go back to finish the LPN program. Should/can I simply take as many RN pre-requisites until then? Single mom of 2 and came with in 3 months of finishing LPN program 4 years ago, but was not able to finish at the time. Now willing to work as hard/smart as I have to and do whatever it takes to get my LPN / RN. What should I do? Would greatly appreciate ANY helpful/positive advice.
If I were you I would get started with pre reqs asap. No need to wait since you need them in any case. That way by the time you finish the LPN program all you would have left is the RN classes with excelsior.....hope that makes sense and helps.
I am an FL LPN and currently working on Transitions, I also hold a LPN license in another state but applied for inactive status since I moved a few years ago.
So as of now I do not have to apply to another state for licensure? FL will accept everything from me when I finish and I can just apply for a FL license right off the bat? Thanks for the info! I called the BON and they told me they do accept Excelsior grads as long as you are an active LPN, so when I saw this thread I got nervous!
I am in PSL, any other LPN's in the RN program near me??
