Anyone familiar with Mesa General?

We are moving to AZ within the next month from PA. Can't wait to see some sunshine!! I've been speaking to someone at Mesa General about a job there. Does anyone have any info about working there?

I'd like to work outside of Phoenix so that we can live in Queen Creek, and not have to commute into the city.

Any advise will be appreciated!

Thanks!

JoAnn

Any drive from Queen Creek is a commute, traffic is horrible. As for the hospital I can't say I have heard anyhthing bad or good about it. Which can be a good thing. I've lived in Queen Creek area for 8 years traffic should be getting better over the next year, when they fix the roads. Hope you like it here. Welcome!

I'm currently in the nursing program and I drive from queen creek to Glendale for school.

I definitely second what Kelly has to say about Queen Creek. My friend lives there and commutes to Mesa for school. Normally the drive would take a half an hour, but in the morning and afternoon it takes over 1.5 hours and it's only going to get worse. I've heard they're going to close one of the two main roads(both are only one lane each way), into Queen Creek, and it's going to be insane trying to get in and out of there. There are stopsigns all down the road with traffic backed up for miles. There are much better places to live if you plan on working in Phoenix.

Good luck with your move,

Keli

I ditto what Calzonan has said. There's much more choices for a place to live than Queen Creek. Besides, isn't Mesa General the one that is scheduled to close? Why not look into employment at an East Valley hospital like the one opening up off of Val Vista? Or, even the Chandler Regional Hospital is a good choice....

I worked agency there for quite some time, but that was years ago. And I loved it. Small facility but it did everything there, open heart to neuro, to anything in between. And the doctors were great to work with.

Thanks to everyone for the answers! I sent an email to the HR person to ask about the facility closing. The traffic is a legitimate concern, but working 7 to 7, it's not peak rush hour. I guess if you want cleaner air and you don't want to live in the "center of it all", then you trade the commute time. Besides, I like the quiet time in the car by myself to transition from family to work and back to family!

I heard back from the HR person at Mesa General. She says there was talk last spring about closing the hospital, and moving to a different area, but they decided to stay, made rennovations, hired to CEO and others, and now they are doing well. They have a DaVinci robot for open heart and prostatectomies. They gave me a great package, the parking is good...so I'm looking forward to starting there!

Can't wait to join all of you in the valley of the sun!!!

I worked one shift there as agency scum years ago, and had a little surgery done there. Has a little bit of a bad rep with some folks, but I liked it there.

IASIS is supposed to be building a new hospital out in East Mesa towards Apache Junction. I'm thinking about working there, but don't know.

Drive out of Johnson Ranch/ Queen Creek is nutty. Tens of thousands of folks moved in without making the roads bigger.

Are you going to be working 7AM to 7PM or the other way around. Actually, it's almost always rush hour traffic coming and going to Queen Creek. I'm not sure if you've ever been there, but it's not only TONS of people trying to go down a one lane road, it's also stop and stop traffic (not really any go) so you're sitting not moving with people all around you getting angry. Also, Queen Creek is still considered county land so there's really no police department or anybody who is in charge out there. The sheriff department tries, but there is no assigned police department. If you like a nice drive to work to decompress there are a lot of nice communities out here, without all the problems of Queen Creek. Everybody I know who moved out there regrets it, and several have moved back to some of the suburbs of Phoenix. There are plenty of towns which have the small town atmosphere that it sounds like you're looking for. I would definitely think about renting for a while to see if you really like the commute if you have your heart set on Queen Creek.

Hello,

I just thought I would also put in my two cents about Queen Creek. I moved to QC two years ago from California and it has really been pretty miserable. I am in the Johnson Ranch area. There is nowhere to shop but Fry's grocery store, Walgreens, and a postal place (some random shops like a haircut place and banks, etc)... We are getting a Walmart in a few months though.

I drive to MCC for nursing school which is about 45 miles from here. It takes me about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to school by 8am. If you are working the 7pm to 7am shift...you can also expect traffic into QC. There are only 3 roads into Queen Creek, all of which are under some type of major construction.

My area of QC is all dirt, cotton farms, and rocks. It is very dirty and dusty out here.

I would highly recommend somewhere like Gilbert or West Mesa. But, if you choose to live in Queen Creek, I think the older part of QC is still less traffic ridden than the Johnson Ranch area.

Good Luck with your move,

Susan:wink2:

Then there is always Apache Junction... housing is cheaper and has better access to freeways than Johnson Ranch. Just don't drink their water. :D

I would suggest you consider something closer to queen creek. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is opening the middle of June and are hiring now. It is a brand new hospital which will open with around 90 beds but plan to expand to twice that size within the year. I work at Chandler Regiona Hospital - a sister hospital - and they have been good with pay and benefits. You might want to check it out.
