Anyone have experience as an RN with the VA PACT

I have a tentative offer with a local VA hospital as an RN for their patient aligned care team (PACT). I am in the process of getting boarded right now. I am wondering if anyone has worked in this position and if so do you like it? It is a Monday through Friday position with hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm. I have worked in an office setting before and wondered if you usually get out on time and is it comparable to a physician office outside of the VA system? Thank you.

I am a LPN that is starting with the Nashville VA PACT team on April 6th! It did take FOREVER to get it all done. I interviewed in December and didn't receive any more 'official' communication until mid February, when they told me I had to do background check, vetpro, etc... Once I completed it all, it took about two more weeks to get back with an official offer! I am very excited to start!

Yes, the hiring process is very very very slow. :)

Tyler...you must have been part of the same hiring group at the Nashville VA that I am! I know that they were processing all the LPN jobs first, according to the nurse manager. I heard back from them last week and have now completed vetpro. Going this week for physical and fingerprinting and working on wrapping up my 4 dimensions of nursing document (did you have to do that as an LPN? ). So, it sounds like we'll be co-workers :o). Congrats on your offer!

Still waiting on my end. I interviewed back in December and was given a tentative offer in mid-January. The nurse manager stated that I would be hearing from HR to continue the process, but no word so far. It seems that they hired about 25 people for PACT expansion so that could be the cause of the delay. Will keep you posted...

25 new hires for expansion in PACT? Wow. Wish we could hire like that at my VA. I keep reading about all the new hires that are supposed to be hired, providers and nursing, but haven't seen much at my facility. We need staff badly.

I did not...lol and it sounds like I should be happy that I didn't!

I was laughing with some of my co-workers at St. Thomas ER... I'm not entirely sure what my job is going to be... lol the description given was a little general and vague.

Specializes in GI, Primary Care.

Agreed. Vague job description and haven't actually met the nurse manager or anyone that I'll be working with or seen the work environment. Going on a wing and a prayer here!

I am finishing up my third week of orientation at the VA. The first 2 days were general orientation and the next 5 days were for general nursing orientation. I have been orienting with another PACT RN and her team for the last week. I am really enjoying it. The EMR system is the easiest system I have used. The responsibilities are similar to a regular doctor's office. The staff all seem to enjoy their job and the veterans are a pleasure to work with. I will probably be in orientation for another week and then I will be assigned to my own PACT team. I feel like I have finally found a place where I will be really happy working for a very long time. The benefits and perks for working for the VA are hard to beat. It was a long and tedious process to get hired but feel blessed that I was given the opportunity to work in this position. Sorry I could not respond directly back to you CheezeETs through PM. I have not posted enough on here yet. I hope this helps.

Congrats on finding just a good fit!

I just got an offer by local VA hospital for an endoscopy RN position. I have an appointment tomorrow for fingerprint and physicals. What's physical about? Blood test?

Hi have you started yet?? What are the duties of Rn?

Hi! I got offered a position as pact nurse. Can you please give more information on your role and day to day requirements?

Specializes in Primary Care; Child Advocacy; Child Abuse; ED.

Your role as a pact nurse is very complex and kind of hard to answer...you are a case manager and a leader with your Dr. I work in a pact team and my Dr called me the heart of the team today. I coordinate with everyone in our team including our veterans. My day usually starts with seeing walk ins, trouble shooting any problem with schedule or anything else that may come up, answering secure messages, and alerts. The rest of the day is continuing to see walk ins, working on dashboard, cans, pac, and case management of diabetic, hypertension, wound care, and several other cases. This is not always the order and there is more but I love the experience. Please ask any other questions you may have.
