Hi all!
I'm not sure if this is the best section to post my question but here goes?
I just found out that I was accepted into an accelerated 15 month RN program. Does anyone have a clue what I can expect when it comes to the work load? I know there are two 3 hour classes a week and one 12 hour clinical day. Thaks for any insight. I look forward to meeting my classmates as well!!!

I did an accelerated BSN program. The workload was intense at times, but doable. You really have to work on time management and be good at making and sticking to deadlines. I had a good experience with my program and I really liked getting through it so quickly! Were you planning to work during the program, though? I did NOT work during my program, and think that handling work and school would have been tough. Good luck with your decision!

Everyone handles things differently, you might be able to handle the accelerated program and breeze right through it. Just a warning, I attended a college with an 18 month accelerated program and honestly it was 12 months of hell. It is so fast paced that most of us were not able to work while attending. I spent 30-40 hours weekly studying just to get by. Do some research on local community colleges with 24 month programs if this is not ideal for you. I did make it through without failing at all and passed the NCLEX on the first try, but my family was put on the back burner for quite a long time. Best of luck!!

I completed a 12-month accelerated BSN, and it was 12 months of hell! The first seven months, I had to cutback to four hours of sleep a night, just to keep up with the reading/term papers/presentations. I got an apartment 2 blocks from the campus, didn't work, and lived/ate/breathed the program for the entire year. It's paying off now, but for 12 months it was like an earthquake/tidal wave/rap concert all rolled into one massive hairball. Prior to that, I'd earned an MBA, and the 12 month ABSN was much more difficult than graduate b-school.

An accelerated program is exactly what it sounds like, so don't go into it thinking that at any moment you will have time to breathe. For my program, we have "blocks"...2 or 3 16-week classes condensed into 7 weeks of instruction, a week off, then it happens all over again. Over the summer, it is 2 16-week classes condensed into 6 weeks for each of two blocks.
The volume of material necessary to not only learn, test on, and retain is mind-boggling. Retention is key because each new skill will continue to be used and built upon, and so will the theory.
Many, many students have done it, so don't think it's impossible. Just be prepared and use your time wisely. I'm at the end of spring break right now, and I've already begun studying for the next block.

I recently completed a 14 month accelerated BSN program. I simultaneously juggled a part time job as a caregiver, and graduated magna cum laude..and no I am not exceptionally smart! You can do it too. Grasping the content at an accelerated pace is doable; the challenge lies in completing the care plans and busywork bs. I would recommend it. I am proud to be an accelerated BSN grad..us acc'd BSN students/grads rock!
