Anyone ever worked for Rx Crossroads as a contract RN?

Published

I just accepted a position as a contract RN with Rx Crossroads to do home teaching of self-injection for specific meds. It's only meant as a supplementary income, not full-time work, and I have to file my own taxes. But it sounds fairly simple, and it's for the city I currently live in. So I just wanted to see if anyone knows anything about them. I've investigated their website and know that they're based in KY. Hopefully there won't be any horror stories forthcoming... Thanks all! :D

Yeah, well I live on a small island so I figured there couldn't possibly be too many patients needing this. I'd actually done the training for one patient when I worked in home care. No contracts, test, etc., just "go see this patient and show her how to do SubQ injections". The patient wrote the nicest note I ever got and sent it to my boss...I still have it! Ha! Anyway, I still didn't do the online test yet...I'm assuming it's a piece of cake? Aloha!

Yeah, the test isn't too bad really. Just like 20 questions or so. Good luck!

Aloha to you....The test is not too terribly hard but you do have to pass I believe with an 80% or higher. They give you a nice training DVD in your training package for reference as there is more than one device used to give the injection. I had a similar experience doing something like Rebif when I worked for a smaller home health agency on the mainland. Those opportunities were few and far between. I don't know how many opportunites you will have on the island as warm weather tends to aggrivate MS symptoms for those with relapsing forms of MS from what I have been told; oh, but would be wonderful doing home visits in paradise. Nice they eliminate the middle man (home health agency) and allow you to make a little extra money on the side. The pay is decent if you have cases to see and/or willing to travel. I have only done one case in one month. BTW, live in part of the county where MS rate is very high and very willing to travel. I did also sign up to do the norditropin teaching as well. Have not recived any referrals though I live withing good proximetry of 2 regional children's medical centers. If you want anymore information, please feel free to PM me after you have 15 posts on the board.

I'm starting to get nervous. I have not received a payment check from RX Crossroads in over a month. They owe me over $4000. When I ask, they tell me that there was a "problem" with the payroll processing and I will get a check "tomorrow", but still no check.

Anyone else have this problem?

This is one of the reasons I wouldn't go with travel nursing. Read all over the place too many stories of how nurses have been messed over, even stranded in a new area with no income at all, and provided no means to return home. All of this stress is not for me.

Wow. A month? Geez. I think I'd be on the phone with a manager every day. Is this your first check ever from them? Wish they would have that much business in my area (providing I would get the check for it of course.) I still haven't gotten one single referral job yet...

I received one small check about six weeks ago. Since then--nothing. Perhaps they give you that first check right away to make you want to keep taking referrals. Calling managers doesn't seem to help. They just seem very unorganized.

Sorry you have dedicated so much of your time, resources and energy to those people. If and when they come through for you it will be a great payday just is rotten you have to hurry up and wait. Unfortunately, I live in a state where the drug manufacturer has Nurse Educators who work as field nurses doing home visits so I'm not expecting nearly as big of paydays as yours might be. What state do you live in? I did get an email from them last week showing that they were planning on paying me on the 5th. Until then, I'll hurry up and wait. Sorry you had such such a bad experience. Take care.

In the IT field it wasn't uncommon for paychecks to be delayed 30-60 days.

It's due the orginal client's payment billing cycle then the contracting accounting/billing cycle finally your paychecks gets cut.

Not to alarmist but I've heard of contractors getting paid up to 180 days late, short of hours/wages, and sometimes not at all.

It really pays to keep documenting everything...

Good luck to you.

Whoa. After 60 days I'd be banging down their door. Good thing this isn't supposed to be a fulltime gig. Could be very stressful. I just hope you weren't relying on that money and that it was just an "on the side" job... Icky icky icky situation. Please let us know if/when they do pay you. *Sending out good thoughts for you*

Over the years, I have had multiple contract gigs. I keep decent records and find most of my contacts pay 1-2 times a month and are usually never more than 30 days behind in payment for nursing contracts. Most recently, I have read a few contracts that specify incomplete work will not be paid which could mean something so simple as forgetting to submit documentation of travel miles for support. I think if this be the case, they should level with you and let you know specifically why you are not being paid. I also would go back to the original contract (I save mine to my desktop for quick reference as well as keeping hard copy) to find out if they are obligated to "paydays." If they are out of compliance with their contract, I would let the hireups know and not mess around with their accounts payable people. BTW, I did have difficulties with another contract when they were merging with their parent company to form one brand. I called the hire-up, left a message, and actually got double paid for the job so then I had to call them back and let them know they errored.
