I wouldn't be interested in anything requiring further studies but I have thought about doing other things, some nursing, some non-nursing; and then I remember anything else would require working the entire year-yuch. So I continue school nursing. I still work pool at a pedi Urgent Care just to remind me of life outside the institution.
No not really. I have found what I will be doing until I retire, and any further education will not result in a raise or advancement (small, one nurse school district - no where to go) so unless it would be a "extra" type class - say I want to take a class on computers/finance/photography, I won't be student again. But if that's what you are wanting - more power to you! Good luck!
I'm kicking around the idea because there are some states that have in-school clinics (like a few in northern Colorado) so you still get the great schedule. I'm in grad classes now but it's taking forever doing one class at a time. We are considering a retirement move in 5 years so I'm trying to plan ahead and look into areas that have onsite NPs in the educational setting or part time adjunct faculty positions.
then I remember anything else would require working the entire year-yuch.
Exactly how I feel! I have been dabbling with the idea of going back for the NP, but after doing this for a couple years I can't imagine having to work the entire year. It would have to be a part time job, but then that would most likely result in no healthcare/benefits, so it wouldn't be worth it!

Anyone ever think about getting their NP? I'm thinking of doing it online, 1 class at a time, may cost 20-30k. Where I work, the cap for school nurses is same as teachers, so far as I can tell, I think I could possibly be making 75-85k in next 5 + years, plus we have a pension. I'm not sure if it would be financially worth it, but I wonder if I'll like it more than what I'm doing now. I like school nursing, but not sure if I want to do this until retirement. Any thoughts? Anyone else look into this?
