:monkeydance:I have been going back to school a little at a time. So long, that they are telling me I have lost some of my credits because of lenth of time, etc. Has this ever happened to anyone else? If so, did you get them back and how did you do it? I feel as though I am up against a big brick wall here with the state community college!!!! UGH!

If you apply to schools with rules regarding the age of certain classes, then you will have to retake the class. For example, many of the bridge programs in my area have the "5 Year Rule" that applies to all science prerequisite classes. If the science class was taken more than 5 years ago, it must be retaken. This rule is to supposedly ensure that your science knowledge base is current and fresh. I think this rule also serves as a cash coffer for the public colleges.

Yes. I guess this is true. The crazy thing is the seem to pick and choose. They let me keep my chemistry(taken back in 1982) but wouldn't let me keep my english, even though I made a much better grade, and took later. Thanks so much for responding.

I lost the 3 main science classes...A+P I and II and Micro. Had to retake them. They let me keep the Chemistry, Gen Biology, Math, English and Psych, even though they were older.

Yup. I have a previous degree, so with the exception of some of the advanced science classes, none of my classes that I took when completing my bachelors were deemed as too old. They did not make me take biology again (or oddly enough, chemistry), but I did have to retake A&P. I now have a whopping 14 hours in A&P!!! all the same dang class, though.....

You know, I don't know why this bugs me so:o because I am now down to quibbling over one credit. However, I have already taken the same class and had three credits for the one that is now ONE credit. To make it more of a kicker, it is just a student development class. It's not as though.....well you guys know the rest. You've experienced it! I guess it goes to show that you can only take so long to go back to school.

The 5 year rule on sciences isn't unusual but as with most academia it can also be negotiated some times. My A&P 1 is 20 years old but since my A&P 2 is only 4 years old and I got an A 3 schools let me ride with it.

I can't imagine they aren't taking an English class, sheesh, can you CLEP it instead?

possible I guess. At this point though I am getting worn down. It's enough to make you crazy. Besides I really don't know much about the CLEPs. What can you tell me? Thanks:balloons:

CLEPs are awesome! You can google their site for more information. If you test decently they are a cheap, quick, easy way to get credits. Definitely check with your school to see what they accept before you take one because they all have different requirements. Get a study guide, most libraries have them if you don't want to buy one and see how you do with the questions. It costs like $70 to take the exam. I love them and have passed 3 English and a Sociology CLEP without ever having taken a college level course on either of those subjects. Can't say I'd do so hot on math or chemistry but the general stuff was a piece of cake. Some schools will take Psych and Growth/Development as cleps also which I think would be pretty easy. Good luck, Jules

Thanks a bunch. I will for sure look into it. You gave me lots of direction

I had to retake microbiology and introduction to physiology again because it's been 7 years since I last took the classes. It's funny, I got an "A" in micro and a "B-" in physiology years ago. I took these classes again the last 2 semesters and I've gotten an "A" in micro and actually improved my grade to a "B" in physiology this past Summer semester. Still ticks me off that I had to retake these classes again considering I'm an experienced LVN.

The other thing it's made me do is become willing to drive and hour and 10 minutes to a private school where I don't encounter a bunch of confusion and such.
