  1. I so agree with TeleRNer. Years ago we hung a wreath on the door, stopped our clocks, covered mirrors and wore black for a solid year. There may have been something to that. Today I see people working the day their loved one died. I know, everyone grieves differently, but our culture has changed so much that we may need the councelors.
  2. not to be dumb, but what does that mean? They have new classes more often? I reallly appreciate your help!
  3. A few posts back someone pointed out the fact that we all have bias in our professions. I can give you the opposite of the abortion issue. I know a couple who are having their 11th child. Dad works all the time, mom stays home and "homeschools". Considering the mom's lack of social skills I wonder what type of schooling they are getting. These kids are often hungry, don't receive regular medical care. One of the older kids almost died becuase her appendix ruptured and they didn't take her to the hospital until much later. So baby # 11 is on the way. I have an issue with then having so many children and not being about to provide for the ones they already have. They said they will "keep having children as long as the lord blesses them." Am I judging? Yes. We all do in some form or another. JMO
  4. UMMMM, I have to agree. Choice or not. I would not call myself safely conscious if I hardly ever wore a seatbelt. It's the same thing I see all the time in the summer......really daily: adults riding kids on lawnmowers. OMG!!!! I have seen two really bad injuies from this, not to mention tractor rides. You can NOT legislate common sense.
  5. Yea, my hubby and I are friends with another married couple. They are funeral directors, and embalmers. Point being, when ever we go out with them and we see someone on a motorcycle, helmet or NOT, they say "there goes an organ donor. " They see it ALL the time. BYW, they are so much fun, you would never know they are in the funeral business, unless you asked.
  6. But again, it's about choice. Suppose you don't want to work in LTC? Should you have to get your RN to go into peds or OB? I think it is JACOHA, and politics in general.
  7. P.S. have you finished your RN? Thanks
  8. :balloons:yes, actually it is the best one for me. I am enrolled in a bunch of gen eds. this fall and they even offer many on line. I really appreciate your help.
  9. PVCC-Piedmont Virginia Community College- is in Charlottesville, Va. Almost exactly in central Va. I guess I got in a huff, because they would not give me credit for some of the classes that I have been taking on and off since, 1982. As they say, life happens. It's the rules. So I need to get over it and get going. They have a part time program which is pretty good I hear.
  10. :balloons:I am really happy for you.
  11. I know I am beating a dead horse here, but it just seems wrong. I wonder if all professions are like that? Is passing the bar the same, in terms of schooling, being testing on your knowledge etc? It's a little bit, actually a lot overwhelming to think that I must make the very best grades I can, be the best I can, and then take this dragon of a test, that seems stacked against you. Am I oversimplifing?
  12. I hear you sister! It happened here in Virginia. Back when I became an LPN (23 years ago) UVA had LPNs on every floor. ALL floors, L&D, NICU etc. I was hired to work "little peds" 0-6 year olds which I loved. The PICU was litterally right through the door. Sometimes we were pulled there. From peds I went to PP/NN/L&D, you could float among the three back then. It was great. We had a bunch of LPN's . About 3-4 years later, is when it stated. LPN positions were not being posted. If you had a job, you better keep it. LPN slots were being filled by RN's or aides. We had not heard the term PCA yet! Fast forward, to today, I agree that there is a missing link. Why keep producing LPNs, if your only choice is LTC, or maybe a clinic. One of the main reasons that I am getting my RN, is choice. I don't have experience in anything but L&D, peds. etc. AND, I don't have interest in LTC, or adult nursing. For me it's simply choice. My best to you!
  13. not to sound like a five year old, but why? Why is the test designed that way?
  14. This is not meant to be anything but what it is; a real question. Maybe a philosophical one at that. Why do I see so many posts with students having NO idea if they passed the NCLEX? Yes, I am just starting my bridge program, yes, it's been a LONG time since I took my LPN boards, but is it that: 1) we are not taught what's on the exam? 2) there is so much to learn that we can't possibly retain it all? 3) there is such a hugh gap between school and.......I am REALLY perplexed. Even the students who have a 4.0 GPA behave as though they have NO idea if they passed or not....this is really scary. It's like "okay get ready for one of the most challenging things you will ever do, and THEN get ready to take the most difficult test of your life......and have no idea if you pass, and all the effort was worth it." Whew! There seems to be something I am missing. Can someone help? Thanks! P.S. or none of the above-:)
  15. Do you suggest a web site for CLEP info? BTY, did I mention that I fell and broke my fifth metarsal, left foot, and right patella? Right now the computer is my lifelline.
