Anyone else taking A&P 1 this fall? Study group?

Published

I have my first lecture exam on Monday. It covers chapters 1-4, which is basically intro to A&P:body regions, directional terminology, chemistry review, cells, and Histology. Is anyone else at the same point in A&P? An online study group would be great. I would appreciate links to any good sites for these topics too. Thanks.

Hi guys I was thinking that we may use a chat room to discuss this subjects....I just created one in AnatomyandPhysiology_Study_Group chat group - This is an online study group

This is a private chat room and only members are allowed. You may have to create an account to access the site, but it's free. Then let me know your user names and I will add you. I hope this will help...we may have to set certain hours to meet...I don't know..Ideas are welcome.

Oh cool! I signed on as the same screen name, jenniepaige

Okay fellow studiers- The chat room is up and running and is pretty simple once you get signed up with the site. We're planning on meeting tomorrow night at 7:00 (Central) and discuss the chem stuff and any other stuff you may be doing in A&P currently. You chemistry whizzes will probably be highly utilized! ;) Anybody care to meet us?

Also- visy4u created the chat room and is on there a great deal of the time. Once you create an account with Xat go to this address and she'll add you to the approved list. AnatomyandPhysiology_Study_Group chat group - This is an online study group

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

Ok, so here are the answers from my notes for the questions I posted earlier. If you have anything to add, any questions, or comments please chime in! Good luck on your tests everyone!

After this post I'll be moving on to the integumentary and skeletal systems.

The study of structural changes caused by disease are What branch of anatomy? Pathological anatomy

The abdominopelvic cavity is separated from the superior thoracic cavity by the diaphragm.

What organs are located in the lower left quadrant? parts of the small intestine, large intestine, and bladder

electrons are found in what part of an atom? Electron cloud

If an element has an atomic number of 12 and a mass number of 6, how many electrons and neutrons does it have? It has 6 electrons and it also has 6 neutrons.

are hydrogen bonds weak or strong? why? hydrogen bonds are weak attractions that form between polar molecules. They are weak because they form between a partially postitive hydrogen atom and a strongly electronegative atom.

96% of all cells are composed of what elements? Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Oxygen

What composes the majority of the plasma membrane? The plasma membrane consists of lipids, proteins, carbohydrates. Phospolipids compose the majority of the plasma membrane.

Is osmosis passive or active transport? passive

What kind of diffusion happens when substances move through protein carriers or channel proteins? facilitated diffusion

Which cells sometimes contain goblet cells? Goblet cells are often found in simple columnar epithelial tissue.

What kind of tissue lines the urinary bladder? Stratified transitional epithelium

Where is the nucleus located in adipose tissue? The nucleus is on the periphery because the cell is mostly taken up with fat.

Endocrine glands are internally secreting. Exocrine glands are externally secreting.

We haven't covered endochondral ossification... Does anyone else know this one?

"Another name for the hypodermis" is a great way to start the next section on integument and bones. It's the superficial fascia, because it is superficial to the connective tissue wrapping (fascia) of the skeletal muscles. It is mostly adipose tissue and is not technically part of the skin.

Thanks midlife mom!

Does anyone else have any questions to submit on the integumentary or skeletal systems?

Also please let us know how everyone is doing. Did you do well on your tests? Are you enjoying A&P or feeling overwhelmed.

How did everyone do on the test? I didn't do as well as I thought. I knew the information really well but somehow that didn't show up on the test. I was actually really surprised and upset. I got a 77.3

Hi Jennie! I got an 87 on the histology lab and 101 (there were five bonus points) on my lecture test! I was absolutely shocked by lecture exam but very excited. I have never done that well on a science exam in my life. I hope I can keep up the trend.

I got 33/35 on the lab practical and 50/50 on the lecture exam! No extra credit ever in this class, so I'm feeling lucky so far!

I received an 86/100 on the lecture exam and 50/50 on the lab practical. Our lecture exam grades were curved. I know that I need to study more (a 2 night review won't cut it). But I am not worried.

I'm sure you'll do better on the next one. The first test is always hard to study for because you don't know what to expect. I understand being upset by your grade (that's how I feel about all of my lab quizzes). It really stinks to think your prepared and still not do as well as you'd like. Keep plugging away, and don't get discouraged!

I made a 91 on the first lecture exam (intro, chemisty, cells, histology). We have small lab quizzes each week that don't count very much ( thankfully) I've made an 80, 60, 60, and a 40 (the two lowest just get thrown out and count as bonus).

But my big test is going to be on Monday, the lab midterm. It basically covers Labs 1-5 and counts about a seventh of our grade. Our teacher says that the class average for it is usually below a 60. It's basically all identification without any kind of word bank and they must be spelled correctly. There will be Anatomy models/dissections/microscopes set up and I'll be given a paper with fifty blanks. I must identify where the pin/pointer is located.

I'm starting to freak out already. Do any of you have any exams like this? It's a lot of imfo to recall. I have to finish learning all the bones/markings from the Appendicular skeleton, Fetal skull, and knee that we covered yesterday in lab and review directional terms, regions, histology, integument, and Axis, Skull bones/markings for the test on Monday. Did I mention I'm also taking Chemistry? Ahh!!....deep breaths, deep breaths.

My bio1&2 labs were set up this way. You had to have total recall.. it's HARD, especially the first time. All I can suggest is if they have open lab, USE it. The more you see it the easier it will be for you to recall it. Take pictures and study, study, study.

We have a lab practical on bones in a couple of weeks that is a total recall and I'm freaking too. He's not going to ask us to identify the actual bones (that would be to easy) but the different parts of the bones. It's going to kill me. The other lab tests are multiple choice.

We have our lab midterm on Thursday of next week and it's on chapters 1-8 but it's all multiple choice though. I am still working on ch. 7 now!
